China’s design process

By Paul Crowe

Chevy and Chery
As I mentioned here and here , the Chinese have an odd way of designing products, it kinda seems like they take photos and tracing paper and call it design. The photo here shows the Chevy Daewoo Matiz and the Chinese Chery QQ soon to be sold in the US by Malcolm Bricklin. GM is ready to sue but this constant legal nonsense is going to get old. They’ll keep doing it and just wear everyone down. We say Chevy, they say Chery.

With all of the motorcycle companies running to get a piece of the China market, I can’t wait to see the new Harvey Davidsuns coming out. This is going to get ugly.

I don’t see any issues here. The one on the right is red and the other isn’t. No probrem, okay?

the one on the right seems to be “smiling” more, too. Is this a symbolic “last laugh” ?

Not fair comparison: background light is different. Angle not same. But they seem to both have 4 wheels. And I bet use same fuel. The yellow one does not look like a GM, more like something made in southeast asia.

Yeah, the Chinese are guilty of blatant copying of other’s products, but look at thier business models… Just last night, I was reading about Chinese manufacturers, and one in particular stuck in my head: Lifan. They started in 1996ish as a motorcycle repair shop with 9 employees… In 12 short years, they employ over 2000 people and make over 900mil USD. WHat?!? They must be doing *something* right.. Admittedly, the overall product quality is something that needs to worked on, but hell, we’re already a “throw-away” society..

Can’t wait for the Chinese HD’s to arrive on our shores, and doorsteps. It’ll be interesting to say the least.
