Motorcycle frame builders continued

By Paul Crowe

Yesterday I left out Metisse Motorcycles when I listed builders. They offer the frames used for the famous Rickman Metisse raced in the 50's and 60's. … [Read more...]

Tony Foale on Motorcycle Design

By Paul Crowe

As long as we're talking about building real motorcycles, I should mention Tony Foale. Tony has written a very comprehensive book, "Motorcycle Handling & Chassis Design," and more recently has offered "Suspension analysis" software. Details of both are on his website where they can also be ordered. Kevin Cameron, technical editor of Cycle World magazine wrote the foreward for … [Read more...]

Custom sportbike frames

By Paul Crowe

Taking our sportbiker build off idea further, let's look at frames. The UK seems to have a few shops currently in the business of building custom frames for modern sportbikes. The names Harris and Spondon have been around for some time, Steelheart (pointed out by Doug) seems to be a bit newer to the scene. There's also Dresda and Nico Bakker (Dutch). The UK and Europe in … [Read more...]

Sportbiker build off?

The majority were just variations or more of the same old chopper theme, well executed perhaps but still just choppers. But some stood out. The Lakewood Special, for instance, used a leaf spring … [Read more...]

Matt Hotch V Lux – wins again

By Paul Crowe

Matt Hotch once again takes all the marbles in the Biker Build Off. His V-Lux beat all comers and won the vote which was announced at the Hard Rock Cafe Friday night. His V-Lux, is a great display of creativity and it pays, too. He sold the bike for $225,000! I guess that covers the cost of the $15,000 rear wheel. Almost forgot, they have the coverage tonight at 9PM on … [Read more...]
