China blocking lots of blogs

By Paul Crowe

We've talked about Chinese motorcycles here and here and cars here and other products, too, on quite a few occasions, seems they want to play in the free world, sell in the free world and get money from the free world but free speech? Oooh, that's too scary! They are blocking blogs, have been for a little while but they seem to be stepping up the pace, now all Typepad blogs … [Read more...]

Bricklin not impressed with GM lawsuit

By Paul Crowe

Malcolm Bricklin is defying GM and their threats of lawsuits over the Chery name when he imports the Chinese car beginning in 2007. According to Bricklin: General Motors must resort to unfounded legal attacks to make up for their declining sales and unimaginative product line This from the fellow importing a car that is a direct copy of the Daewoo Matiz. Now that's … [Read more...]

More Chinese ripoffs

By Paul Crowe

Since Pennsylvania is the home state of The Kneeslider, this story hits a little closer to home. Zippo lighters are manufactured in Bradford, PA, have been since they started. Seems a company in China was caught with 750,000 knockoffs but their home province hemmed and hawed about doing anything. This article mentions a few other things the Chinese seem to have "designed" and … [Read more...]

GM sues China’s Chery

By Paul Crowe

Back here I said GM was ready to sue Chery over the copying of the design of the GM Daewoo Matiz. Well, they're suing and good for them. If the Chinese want to compete in the world markets with all of the vaunted capabilities of their billions of people, the least they can do is create something original. Malcolm Bricklin, who's planning to import the Chery, seems to see no … [Read more...]

China’s design process

By Paul Crowe

As I mentioned here and here , the Chinese have an odd way of designing products, it kinda seems like they take photos and tracing paper and call it design. The photo here shows the Chevy Daewoo Matiz and the Chinese Chery QQ soon to be sold in the US by Malcolm Bricklin. GM is ready to sue but this constant legal nonsense is going to get old. They'll keep doing it and just … [Read more...]

China and motorcycles

By Paul Crowe

Recent moves by Harley Davidson, Aprilia and Ducati to make and sell motorcycles in China are interesting. I've been reading the book "The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century" by Tom Friedman and in it, he is interviewing a Chinese official who says: Chinese people first were the employees and working for the big foreign manufacturers, and after … [Read more...]
