The SwitchBlade frame kit by BFO Motorcycles in the UK, takes your 1998 or 1999 Honda CBR900RR as a donor bike and transforms it into an entirely new bike. You supply BFO with your Fireblade and 28 days later, out rolls your new SwitchBlade, (or “switch:BLADE” as they write it) complete and ready to register and ride. Nothing needs to be done, no parts scrounging, no machining, the bike is done. The image above from an ad they are currently running seems to be missing a few final pieces but you get the idea.
There are many options in the process and rather than re-using parts from your old bike, they can supply a number of brand new upgraded components. Also, price may vary depending on the condition of your bike and the amount of work that needs to be done, if, for instance, the radiator needs to be replaced. You can also opt for various polishing and appearance choices to make your Switchblade stand out.
The Switchblade was introduced at the 2006 International Motorcycle And Scooter Show and received a very nice reception. BFO plans to build only 100 of these bikes so if this looks like something you might be interested in, I would suggest contacting them right away. The kit is being offered at £4,995.00 ($9,742.00) plus Value Added Tax though the price may vary somewhat depending on the options you choose. They are taking deposits now for delivery beginning in March.
As a base bike, the Honda makes for a great start and the number of old CBR900RRs around that could use a rebuild or upgrade by now is substantial, plus for the price, you get a new and unique motorcycle that looks like it would be extremely capable. Considering how easily the original Fireblades wheelie and how light this must be, it could be an interesting ride.
If this doesn’t get a few mental wheels rolling among motorcycle builders, someone isn’t paying attention. Think of all of the older motorcycles looking tired that a new frame and components would make right.
Thanks for the tip, Aaron!

that bike looks good and this is an excellent idea. but $10,000.00 plus my old bike is a bit pricey. i understand the reason for the 10,000.00 price tag, but its still alot of $$$. i’d rather buy the frame or a parts kit and change it over myself to save some cash.
but i really like the looks of the bike. looks like a spondon or harris frame.
