Harley Davidson Twin Cam Powered Cafe Racer

By Paul Crowe

Harley twin cam cafe racer

V-twin powered sport bikes have a lot going for them, great sound, lots of torque and I’m always on the lookout for good designs. Stopping by Mark van der Kwaak’s CADbike site I spotted this one right away, it’s his twin cam cafe racer project. It’s a beauty.

Mark has designed this with twin cam power and a Garrett turbo, Single sided swingarm out back with a monoshock underneath, a telelever front suspension, perimeter disc brakes front and rear and overall, a beautiful piece of work.

Mark does a lot of CAD work, many of his designs exist only in the computer but some have been turned into real bikes and this one really should make the jump into metal, it’s that good. The difference between Mark’s work and some of the other designs floating around out there is his attention to detail, he works out everything so there isn’t any guesswork involved. Did you ever see a really cool design, stare at it for a few moments and then think, “Wait a minute, that can’t work.” Those designs are usually fully cloaked with bodywork so the designer is free to reassure the viewer that it’s all been taken care of. Mark, on the other hand, shows his designs with multiple views, bodywork (what there is of it) both on and off so you can see how everything fits. He looks at it like he intends to build it. Nice.

I’ve pointed to Mark’s website before and if you have not been there recently, you may want to stop by and see what his latest projects are. If you have never been there before, you definitely want to check it out, it’s one of the good ones.

THAT needs to be built. I love that…

Although all computer graphics at this point, it is sure well thought out, and would make a great motorcycle. I don’t know about others, but the V-Twin styling that is so prevalent today is getting tired. Cafe has always been cool, and never overdone through the years. I’m with Divine on this one, build it!

Me wanty, even without the turbo (so mere mortals could afford it). That’s gorgeous.

Oh, and by the way, that’s a pretty good example of where using a perimeter brake rotor makes a lot of sense. It’s just practical *enough* and it sure as hell looks better.

I really, really, really want one.

    Build it, PLEASE!

All the obvious items are superb: combining this front-end with a HD motor, perimeter brakes, Triumph wheelbase, cafe styling, etc.

But what is really cool are the engine mounting brackets alongside the transmission/front sprocket to tie into the rest of the frame. If that frame construction would be rigid enough for this type of motor and make it handle like a 955i, then this bike would be incredible.

Another good sign towards adding different directions to the custom v-twin scene.

I found dbbp about 2 years ago, and just recently re-discovered the site about 6 months ago. I visit every monday, just to see what new thing Mark’s working on. The guy has some serious CAD skills, and some VERY interesting ideas. Thr “cafe racer” is definitely one of his best, but check out the rest.

It’s nice to see a real shock in the front of a bike that doesn’t have a round logo on it. And a sporty bike at that.

    Cool.
    Me wanty also.

Always loved the cafe style. Someone needs to build a modern version. Updated suspension and tires, with a good engine. If this got built for a good price, they would fly off the showroom floor!

I love this guys site I discovered him about a year ago and I use his examples on what good design work for my own work. I just wish I had all the parts to make cads so that I can do my designs like his.

Nice remake of the Buell using the TC88 motor. It would take some experience to ride on the track, that much intake tract would add a fair amount of lag to the turbo system. It also seems like he would need to run EFI not a big weber.

I for one would love to see it built.

Bad to the bone… put the Jims TC 120 in there. Sure hope he builds it…I would love to see it (ride it race it own it) with a full race fairing Black&Orange paint and an electric shifter!!!

Dragin knees and elbows takin corners at speeds approaching insanity…
If you’re not livin on the edge you are takin up too much room
