CAD bikes

Always on the lookout for new thinking in the design field, I found this site of Mark van der Kwaak, a transplanted Aussie living in the Netherlands, who does some superb CAD work with a lot of fresh ideas. Working as a designer of stainless steel pumps using PRO/Engineer CAD software, Mark took his passion for motorcycles and mixed in a little CAD and you see the result here. When you go to his site, be prepared to spend a little time there, his design work is top notch and the illustrations are great. Some of the designs are only in the computer, some have been built.
How about using all of that space inside those huge rear wheels for a fuel tank? Interesting twist, wouldn’t you say? How about mounting an Evo engine transversely, powering the rear wheel with a hydromotor and variable transmission so the engine is always at peak torque giving super acceleration? It also incorporates anti dive on the front fork.
Dig around his site and you’ll find a lot of interesting photos and design ideas. Mark has also been written up in a number of magazines and has been accepted as a member of the Motorcycle Design Association. It’s always a pleasure to come across work like this, it shows how many different ideas are floating around out there. I like it.
