Forbes 10 Legendary Motorcycle Rides

By Paul Crowe

Great Motorcycle Roads

Just noticed over at Forbes magazine a slideshow of 10 legendary motorcycle rides. Looks like a pretty good list, Montana, California, Alaska, Colorado and a lot more. It’s a good time of year to be thinking about this, a lot of the country is a bit chilly for riding and thinking about fitting a great ride into your vacation this summer is always a nice thought.

I haven’t made up my mind about “Best Rides” stories. I have an 11,000′ mountain pass and an 8000′ pass within 100 miles of my house and thankfully neither of them were on the list. The fact that few people know about them is the best part, I don’t want to see another bumper to bumper Deals Gap. Probably just a matter of time.

Ivan, I guess you should be glad your spot isn’t crowded (yet). We also have some good twisty roads around here in the borders of SC/NC/TN in the Smokies, not as crowded as the Dragon’s Tail yet …
Talking about that, via the Forbes link I ended up on the website of some Dragon Tail’s guru, a kind of dude who advertises his victory in court against a trooper who fined him for driving with a camera in hands. The video of the incident is posted, and you see this guy driving around filming all the cops stopped on the side ready for a catch (one per mile or sthg). A few things came to my mind … first there is a lot too much cops there, but on the same time it seems the rate of crashes/fatalities is very high up there, so maybe their presence is motivated in a positivie manner, not only to maximize the cash for the local police station. Then, the cop was very respectful and polite, I even almost admire his manner while facing his agressive smartassy “customer”, and doesn’t deserve the negative publicity on the website. Finally, I’d not like to cross a dude driving his truck while filming the road and it’s surrounding, I’d prefer him having his hands on the wheel and focus on his driving.
All of this to say this dude is not promoting the motorcyclists, he just provides a negative image of all of us, feeding the easy critics and sterotypes of the badass idiot bikers that need to be controlled/eliminated for the safe of the population …
Sorry for the access of bad mood that has nothing to deal with the subject. 😉
