BMW R1200 GS – R1200 GS Adventure Recall

By Paul Crowe

BMW R1200 GS, R1200 GS Adventure RecallBMW has issued a recall for 2008 BMW R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure motorcycles for a problem with electrical system. Please read the details below.

Manufacturer: BMW of North America
Model Year: 2008
Models affected: R1200 GS, R1200 GS Adventure
NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V129000
Problem: BMW is recalling model year 2008 R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure motorcycles. In certain situations, such as high generator speeds combined with large demands for electrical current, spurious signals could emerge within the motorcycle’s electrical system. If this were to occur, it could affect the pressure sensor signals of the anti-lock brake system (ABS) control unit. If this happened, the ABS could switch off; however, in such a situation, a warning lamp would illuminate. Normal braking would still be available to slow and stop the motorcycle. Any time vehicle control is compromised a crash may occur.

Corrective Action: Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the necessary components free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during April 2009. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.

Ich glaube nicht immer alles, bzw. nehme es nicht so ernst, was in den USA aus Gründen der Produkthaftung manchmal so angezettelt wird.

I own BMW R1200 GS Adventure, 2008 on which I install JM CB radio. I have experiencing that on high speed the CB radio gives a spurious noise, although I have closed the squelch all the way down. Is this noise may come from the same problem ? My ABS indicator appears to be OK. Any suggestions ?
