School projects can be a lot of fun if you get to choose what you do. Three students at a Dutch technical school needed a final project before graduation and what it would be was up to them. Putting their heads together they came up with the BladeKart Project. Seems perfectly reasonable to me, you take a 900cc Honda Fireblade engine, build yourself a very nice TIG welded frame, put everything together and presto! What you get is one high powered rocket. Power to weight ratio in something like this has got to be enormous.
The build process is nicely documented on their web site. They designed everything from scratch and fabricated all the parts and pieces themselves. Nice work!
The photos show the exhaust headers in an unmuffled condition which they say they are going to fix as I would assume it’s awfully loud but they were at the point where they could present it for grading. No film or high speed testing yet but it should be interesting to see how all of their work turned out.
Thanks, Schimmel, for the tip!
