Chinese Restrict Vehicle Exports

July 13th, 2006 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

Beginning next year, the Chinese are going to restrict the number of vehicle makers allowed to export. It seems they’ve been getting a bad reputation around the world for dumping low quality vehicles in foreign markets. And, wouldn’t you know it, motorcycles are what got their attention in the first place:

The motorcycle industry provides the clearest example of the danger of taking a laissez-faire approach to auto exports. Uncontrolled exports of low-quality, low-price motorcycles led to anti-dumping charges in many markets and damaged the reputation of China-made products

If the Chinese are serious about exporting, concentrating on quality is a good move and will benefit them in the long run. This issue will continue to get more attention as Chinese auto and motorcycle exports increase. Almost any company manufacturing products of any sort, needs to look at the Chinese export machine and think about how they will be dealing with it as the quality of Chinese products begins to improve. Interesting.
