XYZ by Allmond Cycle Design

Roger Allmond, who we last saw when he built his Ducati powered T Bob, just finished his newest bike, the XYZ (named after XYZ machines who sponsored the build). The XYZ is powered by a 92 inch Victory V-twin engine from Victory U.K. sitting in a handbuilt aluminum frame. Not many details yet but it looks like a real bruiser of a streetfighter. Another custom builder creating real motorcycles instead of extended choppers, I like the trend. Now when are the manufacturers going to take their cruiser engines and start doing this themselves?

    That looks gorgeous. Put another brake disc up front and I’d buy one.

    Good question.

    Another question:

    “When will Burt Baker’s DSSC transmission be shortened?”

    If it is shortened, then more big twins could be built with a better sport chassis.

    A new acronym “SSSC” would be fitting…..Stacked Starter, Slammed Clutch (instead of Drop Starter Slam Clutch)

    If more big twins are built with a sport chassis, then Victory would follow with a factory-custom, big twin cafe sport.

    Victory, c’mon, build the torque monster that Yamaha missed with the MT-01 ( too big in my opinion).

    Big Twin Racers, American Cafe Racer, Confederate, Ecosse (and even Wakan & Buell) are proof that there is a viable market for this type of sporty street riding that only a big twin can offer….

    Ask Buell riders if they would like a big twin in their chassis instead of a derived sportster motor, and many of them would say they would like the big twin option. In addition, there are many Buells being ridden throughout Europe. Watch the market grow….

    hoyt, pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between a big twin and a sportster derived motor? What makes it so better that Buell riders would want one but Buell doesn’t want to use it? Isn’t a sportster motor lighter with lighter cranks and other components? That tells me the sportster motor spools up faster and is capable of providing more HP. maybe I’m wrong. I guess I missed something.

    Any non-cruiser American bike Victory can build would definitely set it apart finally from being just another Harley wannabe.

    The big twin has potential for greater capicity, the rest is no more than just pain ol’ snobbery.

    Todd, notice I said many Buell riders (not “all”).

    A big twin (in part due to its larger capacity) will have different torque at different parts of the rev range. In addition, the engine braking will be different, the inertia of the crank, etc. will be different.

    Personally, I like the higher revving sound of an air cooled Ducati twin or Buells; but I also like the depths of big twins like H-D & Guzzi.

    Again, an option (a choice) of a big twin would serve many.

    “Snobbery” ? Based on the way some of the HD crowd turns their nose up to Sportsters, that could be true. But, to me, it is a choice for a different riding experience. The Wakan is a perfect example of a big twin sportster.

    Well, all I can say is that thing doesn’t look very comfortable. I’d hate to blast up a huge hill and slide back onto the rear wheel!

    Aside from that, I like it the bike brutish good looks. put a better seat on and rear-sets and I’d be good to go!

    Roger leading the way in Europe and he sure is buidling some cool bikes. Have you seen the Ducati he built last year? Awesome!

    C’mon Victory build one like this! Just have twin disc, a little bit more of a substantial rear section, a better exhaust and change the wheels. It’s certainly more appealing to riders that come from a sportsbike background. Make an affordable Hellcat. Skip the Vision type motorcycle and gain customers other than baby boomers.

    I hope the factory never starts making bikes like this. Pro builders and garage guys are where the style is born and perpetuated. All that nightster crap H-D is doing just bleeds all the cool out of it. Making it so you can buy a custom from the factory just kills the culture in my opinion.
