If you’re like me, you like to see how things work, what’s connected to what, what goes where, it all started when I was little and took apart any dead alarm clocks I found plus a few that were still showing signs of life. I never stopped wanting to see how things worked, but sometimes you can’t take it apart (“Hey Buddy, what do you think you’re doin?”) so the next best thing is a cutaway drawing.
Kevin Hulsey is one of those guys that makes the illustrations showing the inner workings of things we don’t always get to see. His site shows a lot of his work plus a really neat explanation of the process from making line drawings and layouts to the final steps of turning them into finished illustrations. Quite a bit of computer work involved plus lots of skill, patience and talent.
I mentioned tech illustrations before and another illustrator, Jim Hatch. These guys make it a lot easier to peek under the covers. Cool.
