Renjith Rao, one of The Kneeslider’s readers in India, has taken his Suzuki AX100 single cylinder 2 stroke and turned it into a parallel twin. The crankshafts are mechanically connected inside the joined cases and run at 180 degrees. Though a 200cc engine may be small over here, it’s a big jump from the small displacement engines of the type common in India.
The appearance of the engine after all of the work is pretty clean and is one more indication that builders with their own idea can do some very nice modifications as long as they start with sufficient motivation. Ingenuity doesn’t require fully equipped machine shops, it requires ambition and perseverance. Nice work, Renjith!

Ok that’s pretty neat, and as Paul points out, it’s done by a cat with perhaps limited resources compared to the rest of us. I was also impressed by the fellow who built the V-twin Enfield. Again….very cool!
He should indeed throw some chambers on that beastie!

thnx all. Comments have been really encouraging that you all are pretty aware of the ‘resources’ front prevalent here. The pic is of the first test proto, It currently features twin exhaust pipes & most importantly runs a 90 degree crank setup. Would put a videolink soon.

Thats terrific !! I have long dreamed of taking singles and making them twins – only thing is I am mechanically challenged – dont know how to do this. I am good for basic stuff like maintenance but when it comes to playing with engines I dont have the knowledge.
Can anyone tell me how the bottom end is worked out ? also the gears ? Does the gear box remain the same ?
