Superbikes on SpeedTV Much Improved

By Paul Crowe

Super Bikes on SpeedTVWhat a difference a couple of weeks make. After the first show two weeks ago which was pretty bad, I missed it last week, (July 4th, was it on?) but last night I watched Superbikes and it was quite an improvement over their premiere show.

There was a segment at Roland Sands’ shop where they showed a couple of his bikes including “No Regrets” the 2006 Biker Build Off winner, and host Jason Britton took the bike out for a little spin. Then there was an extended segment covering the Ducati Monster Challenge with closeups of the bikes, interviews with the builders and a walk through the Barber Motorsports Museum.

If there is a problem it’s the effort to squeeze too much into one show and you get the bounce around feeling, just when you would like to hear a bit more, bang, they’re off to something else. That’s a problem common to many shows, though, so other than that, it was a big step forward. Maybe they’ve settled down a bit, time will tell.

Word is that they shot 6 shows before the first aired, so I don’t think this one reflects any change in the show’s direction. The first show glorified speeding, stunting, drinking, and fighting. Last night’s show was better, but the best they could come up with regarding speeding & stunting was “do as I say, not as I do”. Image always has a bigger effect than words, and this is not the image of sportbikes that most sportbike riders would like to project.

Getting better, but has a ways to go.
    note:
Sands makes some beautiful (and functional) bikes. Wish I could afford one.

I’m usually out in the garage building a bike or spending the evening with my wife; no time for TV.

Keep on watching, these guys were out at our last track day (NYSBC) at Pocono Raceway and filmed all day long. There will be actual track footage as well as one of our resident rider talking about life in the big city (NYC); Looking forward to seeing it myself.

Super Bikes! is really a great show top to bottom. However, *cough*(….aside from maybe, The East Bay Rats) the content is consistently good. Those segments still show the diversity of the Sport Bike lifestyle. Super Bikes! is fulfilling its purpose. I’m always excited to watch it. I record it every week and I’ll keep watching. BTW, Jason Britton is The Man!!!!

I can’t believe the FCC lets this garbage on TeeVee. Everybody knows superbikes should always drive the speed limit and obey all traffic signs from GOD.
