S&S to sponsor Australian Biker Build Off

By Paul Crowe

Looks like the boys down under will be getting their own Biker Build Off. S&S is sponsoring an Australian Biker Build Off. Five builders will be chosen to build a bike based on the S&S 124 engine and must also comply with the rules for the S&S 124 Challenge racing class.

The bikes will be debuted at Bikefest, a major Australian all motorcycle drag race meeting, at Western Sydney International Drag Strip on Saturday April 15, 2006. Part of the judging criteria, along with the physical appearance of these custom bikes, will include racing results. While these bikes will be stunning, creative, custom bikes, they will also be high performance machines capable of competing at very high levels. Following the competition phase, all five motorcycles will be seen at various locations, to be announced, along a specific tour covering the major metropolitan areas across Australia .

Part of the judging will include racing results? Now we’re talkin’, that’s what we need to see. They aren’t going to be road racers but at least making them perform on the drag strip will ensure these are something other than chrome jewelry. I like it. We’ll be keeping an eye on this.

    thank you , Australia !

Their buildoff approach could help energize a custom scene that is going stale in the US market pertaining to cruisers….another stretched flame job, …another “old school bobber”, …even the board tracker style is getting over-baked.

Didn’t the brew pub craze get to a hyped-up level and then fade fast due to mediocre beer and people getting into the industry for all the wrong reasons?

A performance & “bling” comparison among Curt Winter’s Big Twin Racer, American Cafe Racer’s Supermanx, & Acme Rocketbike would be entertaining on many levels. You could even throw in the small quantity high-end manufacturers’ Ecosse Heretic & Confederate IF they would be game.
