Doers Builders and Positive People

Signs of Life at The Kneeslider

By Paul Crowe

Yes, it’s been awhile, but sometimes the best thing to do is step away. Sitting down at the keyboard, I too often found myself wondering what I could say to you that I hadn’t said before. The latest builds, the new models from the factories, changing technology and even the insider tech talk all began to run together and sound like a rerun of last year and the year before that. How could I tell you a fascinating story if I didn’t find it interesting myself? So, I just stopped.

I’ve spent a lot of my time reading widely, working on a few projects and thinking. Without the pressure of another post waiting to be written, I began to relax and gain perspective. That’s a good thing. I’m amazed whenever I see someone capable of narrowing to a single focus throughout their life, often resulting in highly accomplished work, because I’ve never been able to do that, my interests wander all over the place so I’m just going to accept it and begin writing again, loosening the boundaries and seeing where it all leads.

There are quite a few things already lined up, my information inflow didn’t stop when I did, so I guess I should end this right here and get to work. Hmm, … I wonder what’s coming next?

welcome back! with any luck, the guy at bikexif will have the same awakening. None of us need the daily grind, just some insight into wheeled tech. Cheers!

Working artists call it “burnout”, in baseball it’s a “slump.” Very common. As you’ve mentioned, the cure is time off. Welcome back!

Good for ya’ Paul, sounds like a sensible decision to me ! Glad you’ve re-surfaced, some of us think anything is interesting, so have at it ! I know what you mean about burnout on interesting subjects too, as I put out a small car club newsletter once a week ( !!!! ) to remind our fellow “oldies” about each Saturdays breakfast and other things. Seems thankless and boring sometimes, but let me skip one or two days before sending it, and the great unheard masses chew me out, ha ! Anyway, glad you’re back, and if you need any stories or pics about what we “used to have”, I bet there is a huge mass of guys waiting to reply ! jb

Take heart. For the last few months I always clicked on your site loking forward to your latest posts only to be daily saddened that there was nothing new to read. You may feel that you were becoming repetitive, or unoriginal, but you should bear in mind that even your dullest, most quotidien posts are streets ahead of other sites. You offer intelligent comment and content for discerning indidviduals who share a passion for engineering with a two wheel bias. I thank you for your work and want to let you know that what you do means a lot to me. Please carry on!!!!

      Nicely put.

One Cool component about this site is that metaphors such as “refueled” & “recharged” work equally well among the author & audience. Down to Earth, sophisticated, gear heads that see value in old & new technology across various applications.

Diversity is welcomed…ideas will be launched

Thanks to everyone above. The Kneeslider has been here for over 13 years now, imagine that, though the last year has been, admittedly, somewhat sporadic. I just felt things were getting off track and I knew I needed a break. As noted in the post, I may wander over a wider range of topics going forward, both here and on a couple of other sites, but this site is really important to me and I missed you guys, too. Funny how that happens. So let’s get the conversation going again. Thanks.

I’ve always enjoyed your wordsmithing. What I like best about Kneeslider apart from the great articles is the positivity of all the comments, it’s the nicest place on the web.

Agreed- I can’t wrap my head around those that focus on a single thing with laser precision for their entire life. Do what you need, and we’ll hope to read about it here.
