Russell Sutton’s 14 Cylinder Radial Engine Gets a Propeller

By Paul Crowe

When you have a lot of engine, you need a lot of prop.
When you have a lot of engine, you need a lot of prop. This should do the trick, don’t you think?

Work is progressing nicely on Russell Sutton’s 14 cylinder radial engine, but while he was out in the shop, he thought he would mount the 3 blade prop he intends to use and took this photo. I was going to say it looks pretty sweet, but that’s not the right word, maybe something along the lines of mean and nasty. For those of you who were looking at the engine before with questions of proportion, this should put everyone’s mind to rest. You can almost imagine Russell getting a sly little grin on his face as he examines his creation.

He says we should see some really good photos somewhere about March. Stay tuned.

Compare to some prop-driven airplanes, and that looks like a tiny prop compared to the size of the motor. I guess fanboats have less room for the prop disc than aircraft do.

Agree the prop is tiny compared to that motor – like a sparrow flying with moth wings. Look forward to the update.
