MotoGP has had quite a few crashes in the last week, starting at the race in Catalunya where a first lap crash took out Sete Gibernau and Marco Melandri, then the rest of the race saw riders going down all over the place. This week during practice for this weekend’s race at Assen, Rossi crashed getting hairline fractures in his right hand and left foot along with chest contusions and a bruised elbow. Tony Elias, recovering from a tumble earlier in the season, went down and is out with shoulder injuries. Gibernau is recovering from shoulder surgery after last week’s crash. Melandri has been cleared to race. Rossi is riding but in obvious pain. The season has been light on injuries until this last week and with Rossi’s resurgence the last few races, it couldn’t have happened at a worse time for him.
Who will be riding this weekend and how well remains to be seen. It’s a tough sport.
