Rolling Off the Throttle for the Holidays

By Paul Crowe

There’s snow outside my window, Christmas decorations are up, it’s time to roll off the throttle, pull into the garage and get warm. I have a ton of work to do on all of that back end stuff you guys never see and this is the time to do it. The Kneeslider needs some maintenance and tuning up so if you happen to hear a wrench drop on the floor while you’re here, that’s just me, ignore it and keep reading.

I sincerely hope 2010 has been a great year for you, wherever in the world you are. I’ve been incredibly busy offline this year, but the results have been worth it. I’m looking forward to diving into 2011 and making it my best year ever, I hope you will challenge yourself to do the same. If 2010 wasn’t all you hoped, you have a brand new chance to do it better this time. Choose something specific to accomplish every day, decide on your goals and get to work.

I truly appreciate each and every one of you who visits The Kneeslider. The comments, contacts and emails I receive are sometimes amazing, often fun and it’s good to know I’m doing a few things right, maybe next year I can do even better.

May every one of you have a wonderful holiday season, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you soon.

Merry Christmas! I just bought my first bike back in September and, being in central Alabama, the weather keeps teasing me by being just warm enough that I could grit my teeth and run up the highway a pace. New Year’s resolution is to pack on some more miles and experience on my way to graduating December 2011.

Paul- Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this website. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your efforts to keep this site positive. The Internet is slowly turning into a cesspool. Most sites I can’t read more than 2 or 3 comments before I just give up and leave. The negativity just keeps getting worse. The Kneeslider is the exception that I truly wish could be held up as the standard for others to live up to. I don’t believe in censorship but I do believe in civility. So many websites could use some active moderation to weed out some of the nastiness. If you have a valid opinion, it can be expressed without vulgarity and vitriol. My thanks to the whole Kneeslider community for contributing positively to the discussions and my thanks to Paul for sharing so many awesome and unique motorcycles. I am really looking forward to 2011 and what further treasures you will unearth for us.

Echoing MotoRandom’s comment on the civility and maturity of you (us) guys / gals (or ‘y’all’ depending on your personal geography) and Paul’s efforts to keep the site a cuss-free, no-dissing allowed, no-brag zone.
I don’t remember how I stumbled in here, but now it’s my home page. Unfortunately at work, this does frequently cause me minor delays throughout the day… 🙂

I guess it’s time to get serious and put my new shop together. I’ll never get one as good as Mule but it’s a goal. Moved my Vespa’s (4) & Topper projects into the garage today. \78 Goldwing comes tommorrow. Working on getting power in there and then finishing the insulation and walls. Then the equipment welders, lathe, lift, tool boxes, cabinets etc. I hope to be up and working in it by the end of January and if it’s good enough I hope to be able to share some photo’s. I guess I need to take some pics so I can show some progress don’t I.
Well lets all have a Happy New Year and support the Motorcycle World we love.
    Paul,
    Thanks Again

Great work on your / our web site, motorcycling needs people to build motorcycles out of anything or any bike of the parts that are now easier to find on the internet. What ever motorcycle genre you are into don,t be affraid to build it! and call it your own motorcycle. (remember to improve a riding skill in the new year).

No; Paul I thank you for allof the hours of thought provoking reading, and some great debated that have come after. You also have provided a long list of interesting machines built very much under the premise of ‘Why not’, and I think that is awesome. I’d rather read of that than the latest 100K plus niche bike.

Thank You, Paul for the site that has been my favorite and first visit most days of the week – I hope you and yours had a very good, happy Christmas day and that this next year is all that you hope for…
As we all know, life can provide some pretty difficult developments and I wanted to share with all the loss of one of our own – my Dad – eight days ago, to pulmonary fibrosis. It’s a disease with no cure and no happy outcome. He was a rider – on a ’81 Kaw GPZ 550 he rebuilt himself twenty years ago – until just a couple months ago from his beginnings on a Cushman scooter during WWII. That’s more than sixty years….
So, to my Dad, Howard I am grateful to have had such a good man for a father and will remember all our good/great rides together for the rest of my life.
