Pantera Dragster

By Paul Crowe

Pantera DragsterWhen I mentioned extended swingarms the other day, I asked why the V-twin chopper guys weren’t doing more of it instead of all of the long fork, radical rake designs we see. I saw the Pantera Dragster before but never really looked very closely. I just noticed an ad for it again and the long swingarm jumped out immediately. That’s exactly what I was talking about and just goes to show that others were thinking along these lines for quite some time.

I’m not sure how I like the rest of the design, photos often give a false impression, but if more builders tried this it might be a way for the chopper guys to make more functional bikes without feeling like they gave in to the sportbike side of the fence, still a chopper but a chopper that works. Of course, some shop will inevitably build some monstrosity with a six foot swingarm because they’re not clear on the concept. I guess we’ll have to take that chance. Just a thought.

I go to demo ride this bike out at the 2005 Laguna Seca MotoGP on Sunday….amazing thing is it handles probably better than my wife’s Kawasaki Ninja 250r! What an amazing machine! Look for it there again in 06′
