Nolan N102 Helmet

By Paul Crowe

Nolan N102 HelmetHave you noticed the new Nolan N102 helmet? It’s pretty interesting. I still have my old Shoei which is due for replacement before long and I see the Nolan takes care of a few issues I have.

It’s a modular design that gives you the ability to flip up the chin bar when you need to talk to someone. Modular helmets are nice like that but there’s also the VPS or Vision Protection System, a fancy name for what is essentially flip up sunglasses. Dark face shields give the same protection but then what happens when the sun goes down? With the Nolan you flip up the darker short sunshield which works separately from the clear shield and you’re good for the night ride. No need for sunglasses inside the helmet. I’m surprised a lot more helmets haven’t added that though a few European helmets like the Roof have something similar.

Been riding long? Helmet liner smelling a bit like you’ve been living in there? The Nolan’s liner is removable and washable so it actually gets clean instead of you trying to mask the odors with a spray of some sort.

Helmets keep improving and that’s a good thing. This one’s pretty nice so if you’re in the market, it’s worth a look. DOT apprived.

I just got bought this helmet but haven’t been able to try it out yet (no riding up here in Canada — too much snow right now). At any rate, I am really pleased with its features and with the fit. After doing some online research, it looked as though the Nolan and HJC were supposed be similar fits. Since I had a medium HJC Symax, I took a chance and ordered a medium Nolan N102. Happily, it fit perfectly.

Bought the n 102 with the n-comm steup yesterday. The fit is more natural than any helmet I’ve ever had. I think the construction quality is top notch. Can’t really comment on the venting, cause when it’s 95 degrees and 95% humidity here in florida, nothing you put on your head feels cool. My only complaint about this helmet is the noise. Not bad behind a windshield, but stick your head to the side, and it’s friggin loud. Booming loud. Wear earplugs. I think this helmet is well worth the money.

Just replaced my old helmet with a NOLAN N102 n-com. Very happy. Good fit and finish. Flip up front is great and sunglasses feature is just magic for those who have to wear prescription spectacles. 100 mile ride yesterday. No probs. No noiser than my old Shoei RF700.

I’m about to buy my second Nolan. First one died protecting my gray matter. I got hit and lowsided off the bike on my head. I have no problems with anything protected by the helmet. No headaches or sorness even. Rest of me is somewhat altered but I’ll ride again and the first replacement part will be my Nolan “bash hat!”
