Motus MST Motorcycle on the Dyno and in the Cold

By Paul Crowe

Motus winter test ride in January in Michigan
Motus winter test ride in January in Michigan

We haven’t been hearing much from Motus, but as Brian Case told me, “we’ve been underground for a while, but that’s what Winter is for, to stay in the shed and build s#&t so you can get it done by Spring.” And then he gets to ride the MST V4 test bike in January, not in Alabama, but in Michigan. Cold? Oh yeah, but that’s what it takes.

I absolutely LOVE seeing these kind of behind the scenes things. I’m rooting for them. Looks like they’ve still got some work to do though.

By the way, has anyone EVER hear of a “sport-touring” bike with an adjustable swingarm pivot?

Interesting stuff on what looks like a production ready frame…….

1970’s Ducati Darmah, but your point is taken.

Best sounding engine I’ve heard in a while.

I doubt I’d be in the market for a big engine and expensive bike, but that said, I’m glad to see someone making a bike — any bike — with a seat that you don’t need a set of folding steps to get onto. Very nice.

Man, that V4 sounds good. What a nice raspy growl.

I doubt I’ll have the money to buy one when it comes out, but it looks like the kind of bike I’d be interested in riding.

    Very cool sounding bike.
The near readiness of the product has made me more curious on how Motus plan to market the bike. What kinda dealer and support network?
Will it be, as a lot of the guys say low volume, high price. Or is something else on the cards.

wow, here in michigan! what city?

i like what i see so far. a sport tourer will be nice, but i wonder if they’d be interested in building a musclebike also. sort of like the Vmax. i know the vmax isn’t exactly pretty by most peoples ideas, but the thought of a bike like that is pretty cool.

Glad to see progress on this bike, but come on, did you have to cut off the video just as it was getting good?

    Keep up the good work.

They’ve somehow managed to make that V-4 sound like a Hemi. Fabulous! The bike appears nearly ready for production; if they can keep the price out of the stratosphere they’ll stand a chance of becoming one of the few “other” American motorcycle manufacturers. That motor alone is worth the price of admission with its big ol’ American V-8 rumble. The Japanese, Europeans and English, although they build some great bikes, simply can’t get that kind of sound. They don’t have the soul for it.

Have to disagree about only the Yanks having the soul for a nice sounding engine!

If nothing else, they should market the engine! Wouldn’t you like to see that in Polaris’s next Razor? Out here in So Cal there would be tons of guys wanting it for a dune buggy or sand rail! The bike buisness is so hard to compete in. Hope the engine along gets them some buisness. Mission One made their electric super bike but they envision selling their motors and controllers to make a profit…

I agree with you. This engine would also be great in a lightweight car. I would be all for them making a smaller cc variant of this engine as well. As it stands, it’s too much engine for any bike I’d ride.

        February 14, 2011 at 3:55 pm

True, it would make a great engine for kit cars or even a production car. My Geo had a 1000cc engine and it was sucky weak but I did get 50mpg… It will be interesting to see what kind of stats this engine gets after they have make it CARB compliant. Wish them all the best!
