Motorcycle Security Anchor – In Lock

By Paul Crowe

In Lock motorcycle security anchor

As long as we’re on the subject of motorcycle security, here’s a very neat idea called the In-Lock. It’s still in the design stages, so you can’t run out and buy one yet, but the idea is that when you’ve ridden your motorcycle somewhere and there is no place to secure it, no solid post of any kind handy, you just get out the In-Lock.

The In-Lock, screws into the ground with the bar provided in the case. Once set deep into the ground, you run your chain through it and then through your wheel. Once the chain is in place, you can’t very easily unscrew the anchor. Will it provide absolute security? Of course not, no more than any other security device, but someone just passing by and seeing your motorcycle unattended will also see a rather substantial chain and anchor making it inconvenient and time consuming to lift your bike. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to make them move on.

Good idea, but not very useful in the city is it?

Sure it is, … you just have to push really hard 😉

This is one of those great ideas that would be excellent if only it would work… but it won’t work. Physically, a 2-inch wide disk screwed into about 6 or 7 inches of dirt will provide no significant resistance to removal by brute force (or a small shovel). Visually, it will provide no deterrence to actual thieves once the product is released and they all learn to spot it.

It reminds me of the fake rock in which some people “hide” their house key. Unless the fake rock itself is buried under many more rocks, it will be easily spotted by would-be thieves. (But if you have to bury the fake rock, why not just put the key in any small container?)

I predict that this product will remain in the “design stages” for a very long time.
