Motorcycle Racing’s New Winners

By Paul Crowe

If you missed the races this past weekend, you might want to tune in for the rest of the season. The new faces at the front are refreshing.

In MotoGP, Rossi is definitely having problems this year and Melandri and Stoner are taking maximum advantage along with Chris Vermeulen who was on the pole for the race, it was great. New faces going fast.

Then in the AMA Superbike, Mat Mladin has got to be wondering how Ben Spies does it. Spies can ride with Mladin for laps then pass and run away. He is quick! Since both ride the GSX-R1000 no one can say it’s because of the bikes, this is a guy who is getting really good and more confident every race. The guard may be changing.

I agree. AMA Superbike and MotoGp will both be more exciting this year.

the GP was a fun race to watch. The order seemed to changed every lap and sometimes multiple times in a single lap.

The track was awesome with corners that seemed to last forever.

anyone else annoyed with the coverage?

If Speed Channel would spend a minute fraction of the analysis time on motorcycle racing as it does with NASCAR, this racing would be exponentially more enjoyable. For example, the tire issue impacted many racers but Speed said nothing about it during or post-race except that so-and-so is having tire issues. Why? Everyone was riding hard but not everyone had the problem….I presume tire brand, bike’s power attributes, riding style, etc. all have an affect but nothing was said.

I realize NASCAR is huge (unfortunately)….The endless coverage starting days prior to the race (practice runs, qualifying), and pre/post-race shows emulating football shows, etc. is absurd. Another channel can step up and the reward would be significant.

Hopefully, the motorcycle racing leagues will hear the feedback and “work” with Speed Channel because the sport is not being served.

I guess you guys never experienced the magnificent commentary of the late Barry Sheene. He and a guy by the name of Darryl Eastlake (ex – Rugby commentator) used to do the GPs, and they put it together watching the same live feed as the audience, many people never even realised.
Bazza supplied the technical insights, and the Cockney wit (“if this guy had a duck it would drown”), and darryl just did the excited schoolkid noises…
    Brilliant, RIP Barry…

Hey Dogy, yes, I loved those guys but I didn’t know one was Sheene! They where great! It was a great race and I think I’ve converted another. My brother is an F1 fan but he talked for nearly an hour about the race. Maybe he’s a former F1 fan now? Let’s hope.
