Motorcycle racing at Indianapolis

By Paul Crowe

They’re exploring the possibility of racing motorcycles at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The races would be on the road course and everything from MotoGP to World Superbike and AMA classes is being considered. It won’t happen until at least 2007 but may be farther in the future.

Indy isn’t sure if Formula 1 will return next year after the tire fiasco that caused much of the field to sit out the race. I think motorcycle racing at Indy would be interesting and would be the only road racing venue where the entire race could actually be observed by spectators at the race.

They’ve been talking about that around these parts for a couple of years. I hope it happens, but I’m not holding my breath…
