Motorcycle Designs from Oberdan Bezzi

By Paul Crowe

Oberdan Bezzi Design Buell

Oberdan Bezzi is a motorcycle designer over in Italy and he has a website devoted to some of his own designs which he does when he isn’t turning out work for his clients. Over the months, he has built up a pretty impressive portfolio using bikes from a wide range of manufacturers as a base, sometimes modifying a current or past model, sometimes using just an engine and going from there. He’s doesn’t confine himself to street bikes, either, as some of his work is for off road scramblers and he even has quite a variety of scooter work out there.

There are a lot of good ideas here, the Buell is an interesting sport bike concept using the V-Twin as a starting point. His Triumph Hurricane takes hints from the old Craig Vetter design and incorporates them into a modern Triumph triple. The Ducati Scrambler is a clean bit of off road gear. I picked one of his scooter designs to give you an idea of what he’s doing in that area.

Take a look at his other designs, he has a lot of them out there. Nothing extreme but very well done. Some are pretty cool, like his Bugatti bike, louvers and all. Very interesting work.

I thought he was covered before ?

oh well, some of his ideas rock – I like several of his designs. (a lot!)
I’ve taken to doodling in this style – determine frame geometry and engine placement, make a billion templates and get creative on this base chassis. the problem is that i can’t draw very well, so the templates are modeled in autodesk inventor and the engines are a real pain!!!

my favorites are the mercedes slr inspired one, plus some retro yamahas.

Wow.. someone made a buell look attractive. I like this guys work, he seems to take the overall attitude of a certain manufacturer and incporporate it into his design.. the audi bike is a great example. It seems to exude elegance.

As a product designer, I’ve long been in awe of Bezzi’s work. That Triumph and Ducati you picture could wait for me in my garage on a daily basis vying for the chance to get taken out for a ride.

This is not a personal attack but Mr. Bezzi does not understand the principles of Buell trilogy of tech or he would not have abandoned them in the sketch. His design is overly busy and thre shapes are impractical. The biek looks heavy. A huge step backwards for Beull this would be!. The the opinion of Clive shows no knowledge of design proportion and harmony of shapes. The Buell design is very bad!!!!! I know you probably won’t print this because it is not a posititve comment but the thing it has going for it is that it is accurate. Mr Bezzi is a good illustrator but he is a bad designer!

Nice. His work is really solid, but I take offence at some of the labels he places on the bikes. That Buell isn’t in any way a Buell, and the Guzzi he made (http://motosketches.blogspot.com/2007/03/moto-guzzi-stornello-850-lapertura-di.html) would be more suited to Ducati than Guzzi. Nice art, but unfortunately he’s an artist not a designer. If he was, he’d soon see just how difficult it would be to put his designs into production.

    Not bad, but nothing special.

There IS something special on the 4-19-07 post. Is there some hope for a US-made superbike, afterall ? A V3 would be super cool and sound truly unique.

Do tell if you can read Italian…..
