As indicated by the cryptic web entry on the Motoczysz website, Michael has decided to enter the TTXGP race on the Isle of Man. The design draws heavily on the Motoczysz C1 but as yet, the computer images are all that is available. Specs look good, if the bike is ready on race day, it should be a formidable entry. The rider will be Mark Miller.

Cool! Good move by MC. He went from being a huge underdog against competition with far more money and race experience to having a platform that is likely much more developed than the competition.
He should have a very good shot.
Matt Hubbell says
That is a kick ass design Mike, I would like to know who is the battery maker and are they prismatic or Cylindricall. Also this looks like the bike is Silver and Orange. I hope not. hahaha. All I can say is this event is more exciting than any Motogp race. It is a a new world, and it is the right place for Motoczysz. Good Luck
Matt

I’m enjoying the irony. When the Motoczysz first came out, I thought it was a great design . . . but I also felt there was too much emphasis on looks rather than sound mechanicals.
Now when I look at the MC vs. the competition, it seems much more “real”.
. . . with suspension brakes etc. that have had extensive track development.
. . . vs competition that seems more concerned with design than real world performance.
I’m glad MC has found his niche I had trouble supporting him in the past on an endeavor that I found ill-focused, but I have no problems supporting him here.
Go MC!

300 ft lbs of torque? that’s quite the bug zapper

I love all these ebikes, and I totally see the benefits they can have from a development standpoint. But, who is funding all this research? These machines are costing millions in development, but there is little, if any, practical application at this point and a very uncertain future for their marketability. Czyz has a great eye for design and a charismatic personality, but I can’t imagine he could go back to the same folks that sunk $ into the first go-round….
I hope it works and I think it is inspirational, I am just being dense, I suppose.

Did Czysz buy Mission One?

Very cool!! Can’t wait to see the real thing once it is ready to go. Someone mentioned elsewhere on this site that this race is starting to look more interesting than any MotoGP race this season. I agree.

@Nobama:
“These machines are costing millions in development”
Think again. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Millions of hours yes, but talking to the teams at the press conference yesterday proved that funding is hard to come by if not non-existant. These bikes are being developed by “doers” pouring their own time and effort into it and good luck to all of them.
Marshall says
Todd, the two bikes do have a very similar look, but Mission Motors is entering the Mission One bike in the race as well – so I doubt there’s a connection.
“There is little, if any, practical application at this point and a very uncertain future for their marketability.” Nobama, I don’t think that is the case. Although Zero Motorcycles is apparently not entering their electric bike in this race, they are one of the only companies to have actually started selling bikes. Now they’re getting ready to ship out their new street version, and they seem to be doing just fine:
“Zero Motorcycles claims to have already booked substantial pre-orders for the Zero S without sharing details or images and now anticipates a soaring demand….
….Zero Motorcycles first entered the motorcycle category with the launch of the 2008 Zero X electric dirt bike. The Zero X sold out in late 2008 and blazed the path for the long awaited launch of the Zero S Supermoto motorcycle.”

I don’t know if Brammo has started selling the Enertia yet, but they’re going to be distributed in Best Buy stores. Sure, we’ll have to wait and see, but given the success of Best Buy I bet they wouldn’t have invested in these bikes if they weren’t pretty confident of their marketability.
I am so excited about this race, – I hope they have it on TV in the US.

i guess the fact that the motor is able to do 300lb/ft is what enables it do put out such decent nominal figures. maybe it’s a little heavy as well. either way, i’m excited.
does anyone know if the TTXGP is going to be televised in the states?
JC says
I know it’s not the intended purpose, but they need to drag race this against a 600cc sport bike, just to show a comparison.
🙂
Spartandude says
Yes! Someone gave us horsepower. Most of these guys say useless specs like this monster gives 400 ft-lb of torque! or some such. Why useless? because that torque must be geared to transfer power to the road and by the time it gets there it could have significantly less torque than your ICE bike. A typical ICE will have a rather steep first gear which mulitplies the torque to allow higher forward accelleration. But here they have given us the horsepower (combines the torque and RPM) that allows a straight up comparison. Plus the torque curve should be mostly a flat value rather than the curve from an ICE and no shifting (as long as you are okay with a 150mph top speed, which I am). 115hp+ would be a rocket.
Peace.
carboncanyon says
Eek. Not a terribly handsome bike. Certainly not as attractive as their previous bikes, but I guess that’s not the point of a racebike. Their earlier racebikes seem like they were penned by someone else.
Troy Cardenas says
When and where can I watch the race?
Frank Castle says
Can’t wait to see it go heat to head against Mission One! That will be an awesome fight.
wendell says
Has anyone heard who will be riding the thing? How about Tom Montano?
Dave IronKey says
How about Gary McCoy to ride it?
Super interesting, and really gives new life to MotoCzysz. How many laps of the IOMTT circuit will the TTXGP be?

Sweet! I’m glad Motoczyz is back in the game and competing in a brand new technological class, but I hope they eventually develop their ICE for the street. Maybe revenue from their electric motorcycles will allow them to do that.

@ Nobama- regarding your comment that an electric race bike has little if any practical use, I have to ask if that was a serious statement.
A bike requiring no oil changes, no valve adjustments or similar maintenance, that burns no fossil fuel, creates no pollution in it’s operation, that could be recharged for free with solar panels (mounted on top of your race trailer at the track), has 300 ft lbs of torque and a top speed of 150MPH without having to shift, and you suggest that there’s no practical use for it? I remember people saying the same thing when cell phones first came out. “A phone you can take with you? Who the hell needs that?”

Hi check out the official web pages for more information
http://www.ttxgp.com/
You can download the rules here
https://www.iomtt.com/TT-2009/Competitor%20Information/2009-regulations-and-entry-form.aspx
We’re talking one lap of the course (37.75 Miles) and you have to offer your race bike for sale for £20,000 pounds, no titanium, no aerodynamic wings, Race ready weight between 100kg and 300 kg, and you’re alowed to recover energy when braking.
Electric bikes rock. There are plenty of them around already, mostly scooters tho.
It’s dead easy to drop an electric motor, controller and battery into a frame for 0 to speeding ticket in 10 seconds.
Here’s my pick of electric motors
http://www.electricvehiclesusa.com/product_p/mo-es-31b.htm
Batteries are a problem tho, they’re big, heavy, and expencive. So if your boss doesn’t mind, you could charge you bike up for 8 hours when you’re at work, then ride home again and charge it up over night.

I’m certainly excited to watch this race but its pretty much guaranteed that non of these motorcycle companies will ever reach profitability any more that tesla can, why you may ask ?
because non of them are bringing anything that is either unique or patentable to the party, and if they can patent a detail that can be worked around its of no practical value. basically there is no new technology here at all
the reason these concerns currently exist is because the major manufacturers like piaggo and the japanese have not become involved, the reason they have not become involved is because the technology is not commercially viable due to current battery technology, aka the gas tank !
there is a ton of research going on especially in the electronics field and in my estimation when batteries can charge / discharge and have a capacity in the order of a 20+ time multiple of what they have now currently watch out ! because the entire economics and physics of the situation will change
when that happens and in my guesstimation that is inside 5 years the leading automakers and bike makers who have the resources, infratructure and know how will get in the game with a superior cost base and all these experimental concerns will be gone
is it fair ? maybe not but its just a reality
