Way back here I mentioned the upcoming release of Make Magazine, devoted to those of us who like tools and taking things apart and finding out how stuff works and most importantly, how to build neat new things to solve some problem or just to see if we could. My first issue finally arrived yesterday. It has all kinds of hacks, computer, electronic, mechanical, just a lot of neat ideas and gizmos.
Let’s see, aerial photography with a camera hanging from a kite, building a reader to find out what’s on those magnetic stripes all of our credit and debit cards have on the back, building a camera stabilizer for $14 (Steadicams cost about $10,000), some guy who built a monorail in his backyard, live steam backyard trains, and on and on.
If you like to hang out in the garage at your workbench or if you just like to ask, what if?…, you’re the type of person who might like this. It’s supposed to be on newsstands sometime soon but I haven’t seen it yet so get a subscription, that way you won’t miss anything next time it’s out.
