Kawasaki returns to AMA Superbike with Hayden brothers

By Paul Crowe

Kawasaki is returning to AMA Superbike and bringing both Tommy and Roger Hayden along.

From the press release:

Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. recently announced that reigning AMA Supersport Champion Tommy Hayden, will contest the all-new Ninja® ZX-10R in AMA Superbike for Kawasaki Road Racing in 2006. Tommy will be teamed with his brother Roger, who is making the jump into Superbike for the first time and will also field a ZX-6RR in Supersport. Tommy will not compete in Supersport this year. Instead, he will focus on Superbike only, and will make selected appearances in the Supersport class. Roger, meanwhile, will pull double duty in both Superbike and Supersport with the goal of achieving his first AMA Supersport title while battling alongside Tommy for the Superbike crown.

Kawasaki is making serious moves. The ZX-14 we highlighted yesterday, AMA Superbike racing again, improvements to the ZX-10R, and lots more, they really got their fire lit. Neat.

I’d say the ninja 650 may be the most interesting new model this year (along with the euro naked en-6) does the sv650 finally have a real competitor? will it get it’s own spec class or will there be a “lightweight twin” class mixing the sv650’s and nanja 650?
