Jesse James on Sixty Minutes

By Paul Crowe

There was a segment on Sixty Minutes last night about Jesse James. I don’t know if there is anything anyone needs to know about him that has not been covered elsewhere but if there was, no one would gain additional insight from last night’s spot. CBS assigned a totally clueless reporter to ask such questions as “How fast do your motorcycles go?” with penetrating follow ups like “Why do you need to go that fast?” and it only got worse. The intrepid female reporter was shown with a welding helmet on, making sparks. Then she sat on a chopper while Jesse blipped the throttle so she could observe “Oh, it vibrates so much!” or words to that effect. Jesse showed her his custom Chevy and she was totally unimpressed. She was taken out for a ride in the Chevy and had the look of someone who could not understand why anyone would find motor vehicles the least bit interesting or entertaining. Who was this segment aimed at? Isn’t there a reporter somewhere in the CBS pool that actually has an interest in bikes or cars? Wow.
