JCB Dieselmax World Land Speed Record 328 mph

By Paul Crowe

JCB Dieselmax and team at Bonneville

UPDATE: They just raised it again. They broke their own 1 day old record and set a new mark at 350.092mph! Wow!

Following up on yesterday’s post, the JCB Dieselmax diesel powered streamliner set a new FIA world land speed record for diesel powered racers of 328.767mph. Just last week they set a new Bonneville record of 317 mph with two runs over two days. Today they made two runs within one hour, the first run 324.265mph and the second 333.364mph for an average of 328.767mph, breaking the old record, set in 1973 of 235.756mph.

Diesel engines have come a long way.

This was just a walk in the park for Andy Green. The guy flies jet fighters for a living and holds the absolute land speed record at 763 m.p.h.

What I find astonishing is that Dieselmax did the job without Andy even shifting into top gear. The tyres were only rated to 350 m.p.h., so he was restrained from going any faster.
