Hydrogen motorcycle

By Paul Crowe

Just the other day I was wondering about this, suppose they came up with some new motorcycle engine that was completely silent or just gave off a little whine, would you still want to ride it? Well, here we have a hydrogen motorcycle with just that problem … or issue or whatever.

But therein lies the problem. British engineers who yesterday unveiled the prototype of the world’s first hydrogen-powered motorbike confessed they were considering adding an artificial “vroom” to the machine as they were worried its silence might be dangerous.

Technology is moving pretty fast these days. You never know what you’ll see tomorrow.

This is a topic that come up from time to time in the electricmotorcycles.net forums. Well, until the forums went away. Guys game up with lots of creative ideas. One was to wire up a Basic Stamp into the potbox (the ‘throttle’). The BS could control a Quadravox loaded with sounds of your choice. This way, you could play different sounds depending on the throttle position. Toss in a Hall effect sensor and you could play different sounds based on your speed.

to Terry i say, not everyone out there needs their bike to look just the same as every other Tom, Dick and Harry’s. i for one would be thrilled to own a bike as revolutionary as this one. and besides the styles can and will change to take care of fashion, people, trends. so you too can have a emission neutral bike that looks just like what you have always ridden

This motorcycle will appeal to those who want to look radical yet contribute to world peace…it will be a cool and hip thing to own so you can make a global statement and still be an individual.

I don’t care what the bike looks like myself. To me, filling my bike/car tank with water I think is a step forward in the right dirction for technology and it’s look can be improved in time as can it’s performance. It’s just important to make people know that this type of tech’ is not just coming but is here and should been encouraged.

DESIGN PRECEPT; form follows fuction. The idea of actually riding a bike powered by such a renewable resource is awsome. I just recently bought my first bike and the only reason why it was even available to me is the price of fuel today. I spent on average a total of 250$ a month on premium gasoline in my car where as on my bike it dropped to 90$ a month. The difference between the two just happened to be enough for a bike payment, i end up paying for the thing just by riding it…something to think about…..could just keep sending our monthly earnings to OPEC or pay ourselves to have a good time.

noise should not be considered a problem! Studies show that loud pipes on motorcycles cause more accidents than they stop because riders are more likely to drive recklessly and other drivers on the road typically do not notice the sound of loud pipes until the motorcycle is already in front of them.
