Hubless Mini Chopper

By Paul Crowe

Hubless mini chopper

Spotted this bike on the AMA site among the Daytona bike week photos and I think it illustrates very nicely what I meant when I said mini choppers are a great way to learn about motorcycle building.

Brandon Baughman, 17 years old, is starting his own company and one of the first few bikes he’s built is this mini chopper with a Honda 18 horsepower engine and a friction driven hubless rear wheel. Not bad for a 17 year old builder and a great start for his anticipated move up to the full size bikes.

Brandon has a few more photos up at his website, Skull Hill Steel via AMA

I read your piece on mini-choppers and agree it didn’t cost the house to learn how to fabricate building the 5 mini-choppers I have built compared to if I had built 1 full size motorcycle. I am working on a full size bike and useing what I learned to create my wildest bike ever. It also helped me convince my family and my self that this is what I want to do from know on. I have already started creating a client base and it all started with one off radical custom mini-choppers.Thanks for the artical. Brandon
