Honda Police Bike

By Paul Crowe

Honda Police BikeWhere I live, the police ride around on the classic Harley Davidson Electra Glides. Nice bikes, have the proper look and all, but as I was checking out the Honda version of what the well equipped police unit should ride I couldn’t help but think I would prefer their version. Their ST1300 has a 125hp V4, adjustable motorized windshield, adjustable seat, shaft drive and much more. It’s the kind of bike that would be a great all day rider and a lot more nimble in traffic, not to mention, it could run rings around a Harley. There is probably a lot of resistance to these in some departments, but there are more options out there all the time for police road duty and I would think, given a chance, Honda might make some serious inroads to this Harley dominated area.

Here in the SF Bay Area, the city cops use Harleys but the CHP uses Kawasakis.

here in victoria, b.c. (western canada) cops had the bmw k75RT until a few years ago. then harleys. now they have the ST1300. when testing bikes though, they had f650gs and r1100rt BMW’s and a FJ1300 yamaha. pretty cool, but sucks for the speeders! in italy cops run ducati monster city’s, and in the uk I saw a cbr1100xx on motorway patrol! (while it was still the speed king-wonder if they run hayabusa’s now?)

Some departments might be using FJR’s now too?
