Late last year, a survey of motorcycle shoppers reported that the inability to test ride a motorcycle had a big impact on whether or not the shopper would eventually become a buyer. Harley Davidson is addressing the issue head on with the Harley Davidson Super Ride program.
Participating dealers are offering the program from April 1st to June 30th. After test riding the bike you’re interested in, you get a chance to provide a written evaluation online which qualifies you for rewards. You must have a valid motorcycle license to participate along with some other requirements.
I think this is a great idea and it’s just one more reason to get over to your local Harley dealer and look around. There’s a big selection, super deals and you can arrange a test ride. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead, check ’em out!
Harley Davidson press release:
HARLEY-DAVIDSON PROVIDES A SUPER RIDE
New Promotion Lets Riders Test Ride New Motorcycles at Local Dealerships
MILWAUKEE – There has never been a better time than now to ride a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Harley-Davidson and its dealers are giving riders a unique opportunity to demo the motorcycle of their dreams with the new Super Ride promotion. Harley-Davidson is working with its U.S. dealer network to enable customers to ride any 2009 motorcycle between April 1 and June 30. Customers can then provide a written evaluation of the ride and post it online to qualify for rewards.
“Riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is a unique and powerful experience,” said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson Vice President, Core Customer Marketing. “We want to give every rider the chance to experience the genuine feel of riding a Harley, the freedom of the open road and everything that goes with it.”
The Super Ride promotion is only valid at participating Harley-Davidson dealers and riders must present a valid motorcycle license, among other requirements.

It’s funny, Harley sales will bend over backwards, but Harley service will bend you over. I was scheduled to bring my ’07 FLTR in for warranty and extra work, but they wanted to charge me $50 for a 7 mile ride back to my house. (rant complete)

Harley has one of the poorest working web sites I have seen. I get disgusted every time I go there. Just went there from your site and clicked on find a dealer in 2 different places—————–, nothing? if they can’t run a web site?????

The local Ducati/Bmw/Triumph/M.V. Agusta dealership in my town has demo ride days as well.

Larry, I think your experience may be an individual dealer issue more than Harley service in general.
Aaron, “find a dealer” opens a popup window, does your browser allow that?
Steve, demo ride policies vary widely among dealers and brands. Harley decided to get everyone on board, which is a good thing in the current business climate, it gets past that hurdle and shoppers are more likely to concentrate on buying decisions rather than complaining about not being able to test ride.

Do they include Buells in this?

i test rode a buell 1125CR at Big Sky Harley here in Great Falls, MT a few weeks ago. It was a very easy process. No pressure. I went into the store and found a salesman. I asked if I could demo the bike, he asked me if I had my motorcycle endorsement and how long I’d been riding for. he made a copy of my license, i signed a “you break it, you buy it” agreement. then he took the bike down the road to get the tires warmed up, brought it back, gave me a helmet and said “Have fun.” That’s it.

I love the song they used in the new Super Ride commercial (’52 Ford by Murder By Death)…really captures the Harley allure. I’ve got a video of this commercial posted here : http://displacedbrett.wordpress.com/2009/04/07/the-soundtrack-to-a-harley-davidson-super-ride/
