Ecosse Heretic Titanium Series

By Paul Crowe

Ecosse Moto Works Heretic Titanium series

Ecosse Moto Works has been building some interesting high end motorcycles for several years now. The Heretic is a hand built roadster with impressive equipment right from the start, a 130 horsepower, 1966cc V-Twin and top shelf pieces front to back. But, in pursuit of the fat wallet market, they’ve taken the Heretic and made a few changes.

The Heretic Titanium Series has a complete titanium frame and what bodywork there is, is all carbon fiber. The Engenuity Racing V-Twin engine is now a 2150cc, fuel injected, supercharged and intercooled monster putting out 200 horsepower and 210 foot pounds of torque, at the rear wheel! Transmission is a 6 speed and the exhausts, of course, are titanium also. Öhlins suspension front and rear with 17 inch carbon fiber wheels, wheelbase is 60.5 inches and weight is cited as about 440 pounds.

It looks like one helluva bike, but they head over the top when they pair it with one of those very expensive BRM watches, put it up on the Robb Report and sell the pair at $275,000! The standard Heretic, by comparison, is only $74,800. Of course, they’re only making 10 sets so at least you won’t see yourself across the intersection while waiting at the light. On the other hand, how many people actually buy these things and ride them?

Very nice bike, I’ll take mine without the watch, thanks.

Who wants a bike like this anyway. I would not even spend a peney on a bike like this. The BRM watch is the same kind of bling crap. Using top notch
materials don’t make a good bike …esthetically or handling wise.

The same money buys me a vintage crocker twin that will only become more valuable within the next ten or twenty years. People that buy herertics must be utter nutters.

This sort of overpriced ego-wanking is simply cashing in on idiots that need to buy themselves a personality. There’s a reason those of us that work for our $$$ and know the difference between BS and value call it the ‘Knobb Report.’

“…. so at least you won’t see yourself across the intersection while waiting at the light”

Or will you? This bike looks identical to other Heretics. ‘er, there’s not many of those either.

A better way to ilustrate my point of this bike being JUST an extension of the original is the MV Augusta brand.

There’s not many of the $120k MV Augusta Castiglioni specials and yet they look exactly like the other MV Augusta F4s priced around $20k.

So, does the price bump really reflect an equal ratio in increased performance or is this a stupid flaunting contest that ends with the buyer spending too much money (regardless if its pocket change to them or not)?

Ducati’s Desmosedici V4 is the smartest, exotic, high-end bike. It has performance & minimal production numbers; but it is also distinctive “across the intersection” from all other Ducati models. (not to mention a completely unique engine & chassis design.)

The Robb Report is funny – not much writing, but nice pictures.

Has there been a shift away from Patrick Racing engines for the Heretics?

I just logged onto Ecosse’s site. In reference to the “ES1” model, their website states:

“Introducing ES1, the world’s lightest, fastest,

    best-handling superbike.”

    Talk about premature over-hyped B.S.

Is this bike even out of the clay model stage and they are making these claims?
    “Fastest”
    “best-handling superbike”

Please tell me what part of this bike warrants a tag of $275,000. I know its not the V-twin or the wheels or the suspenion, all can be purchased for about $28,000. For less than $75,000 this bike can be built with profit. I don’t know… maybe It’s just me! It seems like a rip off.

Maybe they can give one to Jay Leno.

In my area, that’s only enough for a down payment on a house, let alone waterfront property. There are plenty of people with stupid money for things like this, usually they are the least informed. They’ll probable ride down the street with the price tag still attached.

99.999% of the people in the US will think you look exactly like the other guy on his bike sitting across the street.

If they sell one it’s not such a stupid idea after all is it?

Ha ha – on the site they say the spirit will be 2x – 10x the price of this bike – ha ha whats that like $500,000 – $2.5 million

I predict they will sell ALL of them …. because there are that many people at least in the world with ALL of the personality defects listed by the previous commentors AND because they have money like that to throw around.

Despite all of that and despite the fact that I find the Hype about things like this really insulting …. I do like the machine on it’s own merits!

Nothing wrong with a bike that has 200hp and weighs 440lb or so …. that shows all of it’s mechanical essence and is built with the best parts you can get.

Since no one has tested the thing …. no one knows if it performs properly.

It’s an exercise in engineering and fabrication as far as I’m concerned. And if you pay attention you can learn something about both by studying the end result.

I know that I like what I see …. all the rest really does not matter to me.

    Good find there Paul!!

I got a free subscription to the Robb Report…
it reminds me of those mags that are found on the seat backs of Airplanes, no content & all flash adverts… maybe a mag for guys with an Ecosse collecting dust in the garage.

$275,000… how many Desmosedici’s would that buy?

  12. Gladys says

    November 26, 2007 at 6:00 pm

    just about 4 Desmosedicis

    8 Bimota Tesi’s
    2 high-end Porsche 911s

or 1 each of the above + loads spent on a reality check.

    etc.

um, if i’m gonna spend THAT much for something that “well engineered” i would expect it not to be so incredibly ugly. i am more than willing to look past bad looks through to good design, but for this price. . . c’mon.

I wonder how much the insurance premium would be for one of these things for full coverage for a poor young driver like me… 15K/yr? 20?

If this means this: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/06/07/ecosse-spirit-es1-motorcycle-racer-redesign/ will get funded and built, then I’m hoping they succeed even better.

I wonder how far they are from Englewood…..

Seems like everyone’s in pursuit of the “fat wallet market” these days.

Seeing a bike with a price like that makes me think, “How can I, too, separate idiots from their millions?”

If I actually was foolish enough to buy such an overpriced motorcycle, I’d want the price tag permanently attached and with BIG GIANT NUMBERS, since that’s the only real bragging point of the whole bike. Maybe dip the thing in gold and roll it in diamonds if that’s too subtle.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks kinda cool? It’s a big, ugly piece of muscle, when you get down to it, but there’s not a lot you can argue with when you start talking 2 litres of capacity and 200 rear wheel horsepower.

Mind you, it’s a 2 litre V twin that only puts out 200 horsepower. Can’t you achieve that with a mildly massaged Busa?

  19. Randy says

    November 27, 2007 at 11:59 pm

While I think the bike concept and looks are cool I am not sure about the integrity of the frame design. Having ridden titanium bicycles for years I am familiar with the material. It is not as rigid as steel. Unless the engine is a stressed member on this bike (which it does not appear to be) the two frame tubes under and in front of the engine do not look substantial enough for a 200 hp machine. Is the engine counterbalanced?
