Mobec 3-Rod

By Paul Crowe

This looks like a Harley V-Rod that's been assimilated by the Sidecar collective until they became one, it's the Mobec 3-Rod. The sidecar has a carbon fiber body with a top that opens with some sort of electrical hydraulic mechanism. Full independent suspension and a Mobec duo drive with reverse, foot clutch and a hydraulic parking brake on the sidecar. Interesting design. … [Read more...]

GixxerKart – GSX-R powered go kart

By Paul Crowe

This has evidently been floating around for some time but I just came aross this link over the weekend. Looks like a fellow over in Germany has taken a racing kart and added a bit more power in the form of a 1988 GSX-R 1100 engine with 115hp, the GixxerKart. There's a video of the build process followed by some action at the track. 0-60 in under 3 seconds with a top speed of … [Read more...]

Metric Revolution motorcycle build off

By Paul Crowe

We've often discussed the idea of a build off featuring something other than the standard choppers we've seen so much of and it seems it may be occuring. The Metric Revolution is a new TV series featuring the customization of a metric bike, all kinds of metric bikes, cruisers and sportbikes. The builders get a stock bike and 4 months to turn out their custom version. The extra … [Read more...]

Ghostrider fails to qualify for DARPA Grand Challenge

By Paul Crowe

The finalists have been announced for the DARPA Grand Challenge and The Kneeslider's sentimental favorite, Ghostrider, failed to make the main event. We already noted it was having a hard time. The finalists in alphabetical order are: Axion Racing (Westlake Village, Calif.), Team Cajunbot (Lafayette, La.), Team CalTech (Pasadena, Calif.), CIMAR (Gainesville, Fla.), Team … [Read more...]

Ghostrider struggling in DARPA qualifying

By Paul Crowe

Ghostrider, the riderless motorcycle built to take on the DARPA challenge has to make it through qualifying if it's going to run in the actual competition. So far, things have been a bit tough. The Blue Team's autonomous motorcycle "GhostRider" has always been an underdog at the Grand Challenge as no one expects a two-wheeled vehicle to successfully compete against SUVs, … [Read more...]

Motorcycle powered Isetta and Messerschmitt

By Paul Crowe

We've given a lot of attention to the Smartuki here but there were some early motorcycle powered cars with interesting designs, too. The BMW Isetta and Messerschmitt KR were around in the 1950's and early 1960's. Long out of production, Tritech, a company in the U.K., started making replacement parts so owners could keep them on the road and restore their former glory. After a … [Read more...]
