Rapid prototyping is a relatively new engineering process where some very interesting work is going on. The fab labs we spoke of earlier do rapid prototyping using printers that build up 3 dimensional objects, one thin layer at a time. Some of the objects they build can't really be made any other way but one of the things you couldn't do with the process was build anything that … [Read more...]
Ducati Monster Challenge again
Once again the Ducati Monster Challenge is on to find the coolest Monster in North America. It follows the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show around from city to city but doesn't appear in every one. Two of the challenges are already over and the third will take place this weekend in Long Beach, California. There seems to be two different types of competitor, one is … [Read more...]
Quickest and fastest streetbike competition
The boys over at Hot Rod magazine have a nice little competition to find the quickest street machine. The problem with these kinds of competitions is usually enforcing what qualifies, but in their case street legal is only the beginning, you have to be able to actually survive a long road trip from drag strip to drag strip and compete with the parts you carry in or tow behind … [Read more...]
1970 Triumph 1000cc 4 cylinder

They managed to mount two 500cc Triumph Daytona twins in the frame for a 1000cc 4 cylinder. Built by … [Read more...]
Brand new Norvin motorcycles
Engine swaps have been a hot rod tradition for years, no sooner were there two models of almost anything and someone starts thinking, "What if I put this engine in that?" In the world of cars some extraordinary vehicles came about as a result, far too many to mention, but one great example most everyone is familiar with were the AC Cobras, where Carrol Shelby crossed the AC Ace … [Read more...]
Extreme Gravity Racing by GM
We mentioned Extreme Gravity Racing before and I notice GM has a story on the Fastlane Blog about their entry. Looks pretty swoopy. The bit about spinning out and crossing the finish line backwards at 52mph was neat. Just think what happens if they can average this into their corporate average fuel economy figures. Along with Craig Vetter's streamlined fairing for … [Read more...]
