I said way back here that Tim Cameron was a motorcycle designer to watch. He has a series of designs that someone should be building. I stop by his site now and then but I had not been there for a while. As I have often said, there are far too many people building choppers and not enough attention is being paid to something a little sportier. Tim takes a Harley Davidson or S&S … [Read more...]
Dualie rear tires
This was bound to happen. If you've noticed the fat tire phenomenon with custom choppers where they just keep getting bigger, sooner or later someone was going to ask, "Why not a dualie?" and so here we have Tribal Iron Custom Choppers doing exactly that. Well, on the plus side, you don't need a kickstand... The Chrysler Tomahawk had dualies, too, so maybe this is a trend. And … [Read more...]
Motorcycle crate engines
We need motorcycle crate engines. For quite a while now, if you got the urge to rebuild a car, all you had to do is pick up a catalog from any one of a lot of companies, choose the engine you want, displacement, horsepower, mild or wild and with the stroke of a check have a completely rebuilt, modified and guaranteed engine sitting in your driveway a few days later. Even the … [Read more...]
Motorcycle car hybrids
Wasn't planning on turning this into a car blog but I have to mention one more company using Hayabusa engines since they seem to have quite a business building street legal cars and kits. The comany is Z Cars over in England and they have some of the coolest conversions, putting bike engines into a Mini, a Lotus and some other cars, most notably, the Ultima, where they use two … [Read more...]
More motorcycle powered cars
A couple of weeks ago I was talking about what I called the "universal engine" concept, where I said you can put almost any engine into any vehicle if it has the proper power characteristics. I'm not sure "motorcycle engines" or "car engines" really exist. Yesterday I pointed to the SR8, a racecar with a modified Hayabusa engine and today I found the T-Rex three wheeler, … [Read more...]
Naro car and Aprilia Magnet
Here are two concepts that are absolutely neat. The first is the Naro car, which is a four wheel two seater. The seats are in tandem and the riders are seated higher than a car, eye height is the same as a Honda Blackbird and the width is just enough to enclose the mirrors of the same bike. Because it is high and narrow, it must lean in the turns like a motorcycle. Several … [Read more...]
