Motorcycles, Engines and Economics

By Paul Crowe

If you like technical things, if you really love learning how things work, how pushing here moves that over there, then you are a natural for economics. I confess, I love economics. I love to study complex relationships between things, seeing the pushing and pulling motions translated into rotation and movements where you might not expect. It's neat, whether it's in an engine, … [Read more...]

Motorcycle Air Pollution – part 2

By Paul Crowe

Jennifer, one of our readers, was kind enough to link to a chart (reproduced below) of the motorcycles used in the motorcycle air pollution study comparing motorcycles to cars. What jumps out immediately is the year and mileage of the sample vehicles. Of the eight bikes in the test, the newest is a 1999 BMW with 31,474 kilometers. There are 2 1998 models, 1 each 97, 96 and 95 … [Read more...]

Next time you're standing at the gas pump feeling your wallet flatten, your might think finding more oil would be one way to help lower those prices a bit. Keeping those dollars in the hands of folks a little more friendly wouldn't be a bad idea either, not to mention the economic benefits and everyone being a little better off. I know I've had those thoughts and when I see a … [Read more...]

Those two topics make up about, oh, I don't know, maybe 90 percent or more of motorcycle news in the main stream press. Throw in the occasional, "Local man builds custom choppers." and the press is pretty well finished. Job done, let's move on. The … [Read more...]
