The International Speed Trials are over and the record set earlier this week by the BUB streamliner, piloted by Chris Carr at 350.884mph remains in the books despite the best efforts of the other teams to answer the call. The first record this week set by Ack Attack at 342.797 fell after just one day when the BUB team made their runs.
On Wednesday, Sam Wheeler’s E-Z Hook streamliner made a single pass at 355.483mph for the fastest run ever for a motorcycle but a blown tire after his chute deployed laid the streamliner on its side preventing a return run and ending his chances this year.
All three streamliners are powered differently. The Ack Attack uses two turbocharged Hayabusa engines for power, the E-Z Hook runs a single turbo charged ZX11 engine while the BUB streamliner uses a single purpose built turbo charged 158 cubic inch V4 engine with close to 500hp. There are lots of ways to go fast and everyone brought their best to the salt this year. I can’t wait to see what happens after these guys have had another year to tinker out in the garage.
