Some owners like their BMW just like it came from the factory, but if you had your mind set on something a little different, something in the way of a cafe racer, Team Metisse has just what you’re looking for, the BMW R1200R CR.

The cafe racer is available from Metisse through your BMW dealer as a complete bike, but if you already own an R1200R, you can order the conversion kit, which consists of the carbon fiber front fairing and seat unit with bracket kits, seat undertray, front mudguard, heel guard, tank cover, cylinder guards, oil cooler cover, upholstery, tankpad, license plate bracket and LED tail light. There is a long list of extra options, too, so you won’t find your neighbor riding up on an exact copy of yours, not that there’s a big chance of that, but you never know.

No parts are harmed in the conversion, so you can reverse the whole procedure if you wish. About $25,500 for the complete bike or $7700 for the conversion kit.

    This looks great. Especially for those of us who missed out on the R1200S, or wanted a nice basis for a Cafe, but didnt see the potential in the lineup at the time. I love the Carbon Fiber, and the only thing I could see that would really tidy up the look would be to powdercoat those rims a nice bronze or a glossy black.

    I like the package overall with one major exception….not sure if it’s just the angle in the photo but the way the seat unit is shaped with that pointy LED sorta reminds me of a rhinoceros horn, not appealing imho. Plus, I do second what Kurt said about the wheels. Also call me cheap but $7770 is a bit much, carbon fiber not withstanding, I’d rather buy another bike for that but those with deeper pockets will probably have no problem with this.

      Agreed about the tail light.

      I would go with a Clearwater Glenda tail light (red lens and red LED emitters, sold as a single light, rather than a pair)

      Combine that with a slightly smoked windscreen, and a JW Speaker 8700 LED projector headlight, and a single Clearwater Krista LED high-beam/driving light mounted to the telelever brace/fender, steered with the wheel, under the fairing.

      With an Acewell combination gauge in the fairing.

      I would also have black wheel rims laced to matte gold or gunmetal gray anodized hubs.

      I have some big ideas about how this could look with a few farkles, and some color choices.

    AWWWW YEAAAHHH!

    This is obviously nostalgic, rather than modern… but either way… it is a half-faired BMW boxer bike.

    And as such, I am completely in favor of it.

    I want one, with a couple of minor personal taste changes, but that is it.

    Gotta love that Telelever frontend, and the way the (minimal) frame is built around the engine. I’ve been thinking of a way to make a cheap Telelever rip-off for my UJM, simplified to the point of doing away with the oil-filled forks. Hmm, well, basically, a cheapo Duolever… 🙂 Anyway, nice bike!

    Love the retro look of the big round headlight and the humpback seat, calls to mind old Dunstall Commandos and even the original R90S.

    Yes, the pointy tail light is terribly wrong.

    BoxerFanatic, you have edumacated me today…have never heard the word farkle used in this context before but I understand it totally now.

    Absolutely awesome. I wonder why they have it up on a rear stand when the bike already has its own center stand.

    weird- even though this has nice carbonfiber bits and goodies and whatnot, but somehow it looks like a fat hog to me. just a first impression, but it does look cooler than stock – the stock bmws with the exception of that new 1000 racer all look like chunky hogs. not a bad thing, just sayin. i like bmws, like to ride them, but theyre fat. i want to see them do a doch twin 250 streetbike to destroy hondas cb250. that would get me excited… unless they make it look fat.

    Agree about the taillight, and I’d put a smaller rear tire on it, but it’s a great retro cafe racer. Love the half-fairing, carbon-fiber bits and stock aspects like the single-side swing arm and Paralever front end. It’s pricey as BMWs usually are, but it should be a fabulous runner. Thumbs up!
