The Daytona 200 will be different this year with AMA Formula Xtreme bikes in place of AMA Superbikes. The course has been changed quite a bit, too with less time on the banking and more twisties. This should be an interesting race. Lots of action all week with the 200 on Saturday. Lots of live TV coverage, too. The increase in infield racing will mean more work for the riders … [Read more...]
Then Came Bronson
OK, hands in the air, how many of you remember "Then Came Bronson?" My hand's up. Of course that's like carbon dating to find out how old something is because the show was on in 1969, probably before some of you were born but I'll also bet a lot of you do remember it. It was on for one season, 26 episodes, and if you did watch it you probably remember the theme song, at least … [Read more...]
Gas prices spiking
There's been a lot of mention in the last few days about gas prices spiking upwards in the next week. I've already noticed about 7 or 8 cents in the last week and they are saying we're looking at about a quarter or so. Good reason to be riding, too bad we can't do that up in the northeast just yet. Motorcycle engine parts

I reread this month's article in Cycle World by Kevin Cameron where he talks a lot about the g forces on pistons in today's engines at high rpm. The round engine has almost none of these forces since the speed may vary but the acceleration and … [Read more...]
Jesse James and his flying car
Another chapter is written in the annals of aviation history as Jesse James builds a flying Panoz Esperante. Say what? Yep, the aeronautical engineers of the Monster Garage managed to put wings on a car and fly for about 100ft at an altitude of 5 feet. Although this project has absolutely no value in a practical sense, it's kinda neat from a tool guy's perspective. He had … [Read more...]
The Round Engine
The Round Engine is a new engine design being developed by VGT Technologies, Inc. in Alberta, Canada. This is not a normal rotary but instead is called a toroidal, with two continuously rotating pistons, an external combustion chamber and a rotating timing disc. The displacement and compression can be altered during operation by an engine management system. It's hard to … [Read more...]
