Harley Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO), builds bikes with a little extra, well, actually, a lot extra, and these special models stand out in looks and performance. For 2009 there are 4 models, the CVO Road Glide, CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. CVO Dyna Fat Bob and CVO Softail Springer. All 4 run the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine plus the Road Glide and Electra Glide are built on the new touring frame. The Road Glide, shown above, in the orange and black paint is a pretty nice looking bagger and the Ultra Classic seems like it would be one very comfortable and capable cross country machine.
If you’re looking for the top of the line among Harley Davidsons, check out the CVO models.
From Harley Davidson:
The pride and passion that define Harley-Davidson and its riders are prominent in the Motor Company’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) line of motorcycles. As the upper echelon of the motorcycle world, CVO models are hand-built with detailed craftsmanship and stand as the most desirable custom motorcycles available.
The Harley-Davidson CVO line for 2009 includes the following four models:
* CVO Fat Bob
* CVO Road Glide
* CVO Softail Springer
* CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide
The Fat Bob is a first-time CVO offering, while the Road Glide, Softail Springer and Ultra Classic Electra Glide all enjoy a storied history with the program. The CVO bikes are based on Harley-Davidson factory models, but are then taken to a new level of customization with an abundance of Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories.
Highlights of the 2009 Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles include a Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine (1800 cc) finished in granite powdercoat on all models, integrated stop/turn/tail lights on the Road Glide rear section, new Fang cast wheels on the CVO Fat Bob, 240 mm wide rear tire and unique frame and oil tank on the Springer, and Roulette wheels and new 180 mm wide rear tire on the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide.

Manufacturers have for many years understood the importance of offering special performance models. Even the big auto manufacturers have their lines such as the Toyota TRD’s, Nissan Nismo’s and the Ford SVO’s. I like the fact that Harley too is proud enough of their product to offer some truly special models. However I feel they are a little off base with the models they offer. Most people don’t purchase Touring bikes for ground pounding excitement. I can see the justification of the Fat Bob or the Springer Soft tail, but why not throw in an XL CVO Model? There’s enough that can be done with the 1200 motor to really have a screaming bike. Why not start with the XR1200 that is only available overseas right now. C’mon Harley lets bring back the “Sport” in the Sportster!

I was just thinking the same thing the other day Jarred! A SC Sportster from either the XR1200 or the 1200 Roadster would be a fantastic start for a CVO bike. They could make a real screamer! So, C’mon Harley, Listen up!

I would love to see a high output CVO Sporty, but there is a large demand for high performance baggers. I run a bike shop, and most of my work is in high performance v-twins. Everybody seems to want a faster bagger. This is exactly was HD is giving them. Not to mention the beauty and bling of the bikes!
sranobody says
$40k for the Ultra Classic is a hell of a price to pay for a speedy bagger though. I would love to have a choice for a SC motor from the factory with out all the bling. I wonder if they are just leaving the Sporty to the bottom dollar bikes or Buell territory?

Harley-Davidson can make some nice looking bikes, but their naming scheme is horrible. I don’t understand how it works, but somehow they come up with names that sound like “Screaming Fat Boy.” What kind of marketing is that?

HD’s aint my thing, but I’ll buy a drink for the stylist of that orange number. Great work!

That road glide is just Hideous! sorry, I don’t know how that will do in the UK, but not for me, thanks.

I agree with needing a cvo sportster. The baggers are great but the pricing is alittle pricey for what you get.

Obviously you’ve never ridden a Road Glide or your post would be VERY different. It’s the bike RIDERS buy in spite of the way it looks. The Road Glide is also Willie G’s choice for a road trip. The handling is exceptional and the frame mounted fairing provides an almost windless, effortless feel to the steering. The new CVO is already almost sold out on initial dealer allotments. Mine is on order and my 2001 (which has over 15K in custom work) is for sale. Awesome job, CVO SHOP!

I sold my ’01 Road Glide SE. I’m waiting for my ’09
I had many HDs, Road Glide is the best handling bike.
