As promised a few days ago, Ducati has officially released photos and specifications for their new 2009 Ducati Streetfighter and Streetfighter S. Powered by the watercooled engine from the 1098, it weighs 368 pounds with 155 horsepower and 87.5 foot pounds of torque. With an upright seating position and the naked, no bodywork look, the streetfighter should attract a lot of Ducati enthusiasts, especially those who want the power of the 1098 but prefer a more street oriented package. Wheelbase is 58.1 inches, rake 25.6 degrees, steering angle 29 degrees.
So what’s special about the Streetfighter “S” model? The standard Streetfighter has Showa suspension front and rear while the S model uses Ohlins suspension pieces and replaces the standard 10 spoke wheels with lighter 5 spoke forged Marchesini wheels. It also includes Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Data Analysis (DDA) and carbon fiber front fender and cambelt covers.
The look of the new Streetfighter is lean and aggressive and at 368 pounds, 155 horsepower and an upright seating position I imagine the front wheel will get lots of air time. Will the Streetfighter bring in new Ducati buyers or simply shift some from the more track focused 1198? We’ll have to wait and see. The Streetfighter is scheduled for release sometime in the Spring of 2009.

I love Ducati. I was a big fan of the Monster when if first came out, but this just does nothing for me.
I know on paper the bike is outstanding and I love the low weight, but it sure looks heavy and and messy with stuff just stuck randomly all over it. It almost looks like somebody pieced it together from parts they found in a junk-yard.
I can’t imagine walking into a show-room, looking at this right next to a 1098 (or 1198) and deciding to take this monstrosity home.
Oh well. I guess the fact that it looks so ugly to me means that it’s unique and other people may find it as beautiful as I find it ugly.

That said, I swear insurance companies get to name bikes these days, so they can raise the rates because of the names. Why not go all the way and just call it the Ducati Speedingticket?
I’d ride a bike called the Ducati Manatee if it meant less attention.

This style doesn’t do it for me. I agree with others who say stuff is just hanging off everywhere (Tuono-style….boo, hiss).
Compare this Ducati and the Tuono against what might be the “cleanest” looking liquid-cooled naked, the Moto Morini 1200 Corsaro, and there is no question which engine pulls off the naked style better.

love it, but i’m not digging the headlight or mirrors. maybe it would’ve benefitted from a retrofit of the 1098 headlights, make it look like a real streetfighter! which of course it isn’t…..nice though. wish i had the coin to pick one up.

looks not with standing, I had an opportunity to ride a S4S last spring and a few years ago a Tuono. I thought both bike were ridiculous. This one would be even more extreme. That said, it will be a blast to ride as were the others. I must be getting old. I think 100HP is enough on the street.

I don’t know wheher this new Ducati is fugly or not. I have only seen the photos on this website, and looking at a photograph is not the same as looking at the machine in the metal. For one thing the view we have in these three photos is not the way we will see the bike in person… except of course for those of us who spend a lot of time lying on our bellies. The photographer shot the machine looking up at it from ground level. We will most be looking down on it from a standing position, or sitting astride it. That view may be very different from what we see here. I have to admit these photos do not overwhelm me with the “presence” of the new Ducati, but I’ve misjudged new bikes before based strictly on photographs, so I’ll reserve judgement until I see or ride the real thing.

Streetfighter is a silly name, just like the Buell Cafe Racer. Streetfighters are custom bikes and this ain’t custom.
One of the things that made the Monster so successful, was how beautiful the engines were. The watercooled S4Rs suffered enough as it is, but this takes ugly to another level.

the headlight is lame because they tried to play on the success of hypermotard.
paint the fork black. put on the confederate style headlight or smtn retro like. and do smtn about the lower radiator (curve it towards the wheel). and u have a decent looking bike.
this bike doesn’t look good because it is a rough bike in a big picture but it has a lot of aerodynamic looking SMALL detail like headlights and mirrors. small detail should be of the same style or be overemphasised.
it’s sad but k1200r is still the best looking naked monster.

Street Fighter = A crashed/trashed bike that someone with little or no money buys and uses whatever free materials he/she can find and duck tapes it together. This is a yuppy want to be bad bike. I need to see it in the flesh to make up my mind. Personally I would take the HyperMotard.

I found a red one after searching the web a little.
I seams to me the red contrast cleans it up a little . Granted the mirrors and headlamp are not my favorite but those item are easy to change . Maybe a speed tripple style headlamp and little bar end mirrors. If I had the choice of 1098 or this I would rather modify a 1098 myself but if that’s not your bag, this is good.

Well, I have a ultimate respect for the potential of this ride on the paper, but to me it will never replace the Monster… First because of the discutable “style” of this Streetfighter while the Monster had a truly breakthrough design and is now a classic. Then as it as been mentioned before in different ways, 155 HP on open roads is not for me 🙁

The Cool thing about the monster is that its style is adaptable. It is just as comfortable with a big round headlight and shotgun exhaust as it is with small dual hids and and underbelly pipe. Recently it seems that ducati is moving towards the angular style that only lends itself to a more modern set of cosmetic modification options. like brutale headlights or triangle shaped exhausts. This bike has too many nooks and crannies, it kinda looks to me like a supersonic stealth english bagel. Im dissapointed. But thats not to say i wouldnt buy one.

Red is much better. Now that I see a person on it (Troy Bayliss I believe) I’m starting to like it. Just axe the exhaust, headlights and mirrors and you’ve got something brewing.

Did you notice the one Bayliss is on has a tail exhaust, and a different body setup. Must have been the concept version. I like that one better than the production one.

Second and to the Speed Triple owners – I own an 08 Triple and while it is unique in many ways, it also lacks that ‘edge’ in performance, is somewhat porky and seems to be happy somewhere in the middle, between sucks & outstanding. As I debated on which bike to buy over the last several weeks, I considered and rode the Motard S, thought about the S4R Tri but placed my order the day my dealer told me/showed me pics/specs of the Streetfighter S. For the yuppy crowd? Please! 155hp, sub 370, ohlins/brembo, forged & polished M’s and knowing a full ecu/exhaust soon to be available – equating to another 10+ hp and < of about 8-12 lbs. If yuppies enjoy warp blistering speed, edgy & in your face styling, and moreover, a bike that’ll scorch both the twisties and deliver my ass to city events both in style and comfort. . .then, by all means, consider me a yuppy who is more than happy to step from his Triple to the Streetfighter S.

So I’m a big fan of the nakeds generally except being tallish I tend to look silly on them (cramped)
I notice that this darling is a full inch longer in the base than its largest monster comparable so there may be hope for me.
Its more powerful than the speed triple (again it’s just too small) AND its thinner in the waist – I think it shows promise and provides a great base bike for those who like to tinker with the general look e.g those mirrors!!!!!!
Can’t wait to sit on one and take her for a ride, I’m not sure why the look is such a problem for some of those on this thread – it’s a good thing we have choice I suppose

I’m so glad I bought my 07 M695 when I did before Ducati decided to crap all over the clean simple lines of what a monster *SHOULD* look like. The new M696 was bad… this is 5x worse.
It really does look too much like an Aprilla. If I wanted that look… I’d buy an Aprilla.

My first bike was a 450 Desmo Disc. Loved it. Great handling – almost no need for brakes!! (like a 125cc race bike).
Why can’t they do the supermono?
Why can’t they do an exhaust per side – with two on one side as an option?
A great new model – there have been a few aftermarket attempts to make a streetfighter.

Ducati copied every bit from the MV Brutale and tried very had to stay different. But the Clocks, exhausts & other bits give it away. It looks like a Cane Toad/Frog. This is the last straw between me and Ducati. One for launching in India at 4 times the US prices and now by trying so hard to clone the MV Brutale, the greatest motorcycle ever built in both form and function. I myself am a proud owner of the MV Agusta Brutale 910R. The name ‘streetfighter’ what a cliche. Power stated is impressive though but its just one aspect. But nothing and no matter what amount manufacturers clone the Brutale they can never dream to come close enough to the Brutale, forget about a better design.snigger

as an ’06 MV 910s owner, i like the looks of the new streetfighter. it’s definitely been influenced by the brutale. i see the MV as a more exclusive and rare bike however. one thing for sure, the brutale still looks absolutely beautiful since it’s initial design as a 750 several years ago. also, the brutale is a much cleaner package, without all of the crap hanging off of it, and the way the engine is visible in the frame. magnificent! only time will tell if the streetfighter will prove to be what the brutale is and has been. in the mean time i’ll wait for the inevitable, the 1199s streetfighter.

Well I just bought one, a 2010 red Streefighter and it handles like you cant believe. I traded my 07 Triumph Speed Triple. It was a ok bike, didnt handle as well as wanted. The Ducati is the Cream of Motorcycles.
