Ducati Streetfighter coming soon

Ducati has something hidden in their back room. If you go to ducati.com there's an intro screen that brings up the visual shown above. It seems a Ducati streetfighter will be introduced November 3rd. I wonder if it will make it that far before it leaks to the web. I have no other info but I'll let you know if I hear.

Thanks for the tip, Chris.

UPDATE: As comments below show, the Streetfighter is evidently a naked 1098, which should be a pretty impressive ride.

UPDATE 2: It's here now!

While I am sure a new Ducati 1098? based streetfighter will be interesting, I tend to feel that this segment is getting a bit saturated.

What would excite me a whole lot more at this time would be a new SuperMono based on half of the 1098 motor!

The time is right for a super lightweight single cylinder sportsbike … for street and track.

I don’t get it. Isn’t the Monster the original Street Fighter?

So the news is that there is no news until next week?

Well, there you have it.

I agree with Lawrence, Ducati needs to bring back the sporty lightweight singles they used to be famous for.

How much is it gonna cost?

coho 10.28.08 at 7:16 pm

Streetfighter = sportbike with the fairing crashed off and not replaced.

You can bet the “PreCrashed” 1098 will not differ from the “DIY” 1098 ‘fighters by much. You do, however, get to skip the road rash.

coho 10.28.08 at 7:18 pm

The cost, I mean.

D’oh.

wasnt every bike before 1980 a streetfighter?

Lawrence 10.28.08 at 8:26 pm

Frankly, I would rather have a factory made “StreetFighter” than some pile of rubbish that I or someone else put together in the shed.

The term “StreetFighter” has evolved. It no longer means “crashed sportbike with its fairings removed by poor, pimply teens” as it used to.

This, in my view, is a good thing.

hobomike 10.29.08 at 3:37 am

I don’t get it. It looks just like you stripped the fairings off of a crashed 1098. Nothing special. The other factory “streetfighters” (which I think used to be called “nakeds”) have a lot more going for them. They are well developed, and very different looking from their fully-faired counterparts.

Proper streetfighters are not just naked sportbikes. They often have custom, EXPENSIVE frames from Spondon or Harris, improved suspenders and a kicked up tail and exhaust. Not exactly po’boy material.

And please, please tell me Ducati didn’t trademark “Streetfighter.”

could be wrong, but I doubt this is the actual version being released: http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e311/mgrau/1098-Naked.jpg
this looks like a photoshop job- I doubt Ducati would make so much fuss about a 1098 with the fairing removed-I’m betting on a bit more of a specialized design

kneeslider 10.29.08 at 8:17 am

Those images linked above are Photoshop and various publications, like the one linked above, have, in the past, confidently predicted things that were never built so we’ll have to wait and see.

chris 10.29.08 at 8:27 am

Impressed with what Ducati has been doing lately, I’m excited to see the new product design…

motoxyogi 10.29.08 at 10:08 am

Whats gonna happen to the Monster S4R with the 999 engine?
And by all the accounts i’ve heard the 1098 engine is quite the monster(pun not intended), would you really want a naked that wil flip you at a sniff of gas

Clive 10.29.08 at 1:02 pm

Yes! I do want that! And im going to assume that the “streetfighter” is just going to be the 1098 engine in the new monster format.

Mayakovski 10.29.08 at 2:57 pm

I would be very surprised given the amazing 1098 and 848 bikes if that photo was the new street fighter, it is just way to boring and plain and easy to do for Ducati. I really, really hope they absolutely blow us all away with a new bike, just like the 1098 did.

Clive Makinson-Sanders 10.29.08 at 8:10 pm

Heres another possible peek.. i love the top cylinder! Though i doubt it will look anything like this.

It will be interesting to see how sloppy the liquid-cooled naked engine will look.

Look at the Moto Morini Corsaro. It has more torque than the Ducati (albeit 89 more cc’s)

http://motomorini.milanoad.com/web/index.html#corsaro_veloce

There are rumors that Morini will be on sale in North America.

Awesome. That bike is just awesome!
