2005 Yamaha R1 Powered Snowmobile on Wheels

We’ve talked about putting snowmobile engines in motorcycles and converting snowmobiles for the road before, mounting wheels where the skis and track used to be so you can ride the roads during the warmer weather. Well, here’s one that should keep the Can-Am crowd in the rear view mirror because this sled has a 1000cc engine, same as used in the Yamaha R1.

The seller doesn’t say whether this unit is a kit conversion or one that was homebuilt, I’m thinking it might be homebrew, so an up close inspection is probably in order before putting in a bid, but if it’s well built, it could be a lot of fun on the highway. It has a reverse gear, as it should, and with snowmobile clutches, this is twist and go, no shifting!

I bet one of these would be an interesting ride, especially if you roll on up next to a Can-Am Spyder and blip the throttle.

It’s for sale on eBay. Listing has ended.
