Chinese motorcycles and the Chinese motorcycle industry are coming along as evidenced by the recent show in Chongqing. Already producing motorcycles by the millions, they are steadily developing products that could have wide appeal in markets outside China .
The bike in the photo above, for instance, is a 250cc 4 valve DOHC liquid cooled motocross bike with a 6 speed transmission. If the quality is decent and the price follows what is normal for a Chinese product, it could cut into sales from the Japanese manufacturers in some market segments.

Quality? There is no “I” in Team but there is in Quality, Im sorry, Im all for a free market and China is welcome to make whatever they want but these and other bikes have been coming into Canada for several years now and I have yet to hear someone not regret their purchase.
These machines litter the classified ads with people lamenting about “quality” and getting parts. Most “dealers” are businesses that dont normally sell bikes (usually power products like mowers etc) and have no idea how to be a motorcycle dealer.
Im sure people who want to spend less (and get less in return) will keep these bikes coming in but it takes more than simply making a product in order for it to be successful.
Good like China, you’ll need it.

I live in the Macau S.A.R. (close to Hong Kong). It’s an autonomous region of China much like HK except it was under Portuguese rule and it reverted back to China in 1999. This place is 27 Km^2 and it has 180.000 motorized vehicles, 92.000 of which are motorcycles, the vast majority 50cc-125cc scooters. The only “Chinese” bikes one will see around here are Kymco. There are some Chinese brand motorcycles but the vast majority are Japanese or Taiwanese. I know of a dealer which sells a Chinese brand motorcycle.Cheapest piece of crap I’ve ever seen. Plastic parts all around that look as if they’ll snap off as soon as you touch them.
The Chinese motor industry has a long way to go before they can compete with the quality of the main European/American/Asian brands.
They have absolutely no creativity. All they do is steal designs from the leading brands, even of company logos.

The chinese are far superior in the manufacture of plastic dog poop, you must admit. I’ll buy mine from no one else.

Don’t be too quick to dismiss the chinese. True most of the vehicles coming from china are laughable but the term “made in china” is probably gonna become a lot more familiar than it already is. It’s kinda hard to compete with $1 an hour wage and a huge workforce.

The Keeway brand of motorcycles are actually quite high quality. They’re Chinese, and they make Yamaha Viragos, V-Moto Milans, etc. I wet up a couple of the Keeway branded Milan scooters this morning, and the quality is quite nice. They’re also one hell of a lot cheaper than a V-Moto Milan.

I remember a time when comments about poor quality Japanese products were legitimate. And I remember those comments about poor Japanese quality continuing during the time when Corollas and Civics were actually far better built than Vegas and Pintos.
How many of China’s ~100 motorcycle manufacturers are on that path? How far along the path are they?

To be sure lots of people got burned by the first wave of Chinese motorcycles coming through North America but business and manufacturing is about evolution.
Not everyone will want to buy a 2,000USD bike for lots of reasons. Maybe they think it’s “Chinese” or maybe it’s not a “real” bike unless it’s Orange and 20,000 dollars.
The people who would buy a Chinese bike at this stage are largely looking for inexpensive, fun and convenient transportation. Different strokes for different folks.
