Motorcycle derestrictors

A short while ago I mentioned the Nikko G pack derestrictor and I just found two more similar products. Muzzy’s has the Bonneville Box that works for the ZX-12R and the Timing Retard Eliminator from Ivan’s Performance Products.
The Bonneville Box eliminates the 300km/hr top speed limit but is only made for the 2001 and 2002 ZX12R.
The Timing Retard Eliminator is for EFI Suzuki sportbikes and eliminates the partial throttle ignition recurve in the first four gears so you have a nice crisp throttle response all the time.
This is one of the neatest things about the computer controlled engine management systems. Manufacturers can set up a bike to meet all of the proper rules and regulations or gentlemen’s agreements (300kmh top speed) and you can choose to be a gentleman if you like. For race use only, of course.
Now, on the other hand, let’s be realistic, the Timing Retard Eliminator will be a useful addition and you’ll feel a performance and ridability gain in normal use. The Bonneville Box is more of a macho thing because very few ZX12R owners will ever have a chance to test whether it works. You can brag to your friends and show them the little plug in module and puff out your chest a bit, but maybe that’s all you really need anyway.
