Hydrogen motorcycle for $6000

June 15th, 2005 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

The ENV, hydrogen motorcycle that was introduced back in March has generated enough interest that the company, Intelligent Energy, is moving to California and planning to have a hydrogen motorcycle for sale by 2006 for $6000. If they manage to pull it off, they’ll be the first company selling a production hydrogen vehicle of any sort. Don’t know if the performance will be any better than when it was first introduced but even if it isn’t, they do deserve credit for going ahead.

California is pushing pretty hard with their hydrogen highway plan for hydrogen filling stations so if it is going to succeed anywhere, that would be the place. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are some way from being practical but efforts like this will raise awareness and probably stimulate more investment in the technology, which can’t hurt.

Four hours on that seat? Running out of hydrogen won’t be the reason I would have to stop. My ass would be numb way before that.

I would love to have a motorcycle like this to ride to work. I live in sunny south FL and the weather is conducive to commuting on such a bike. Right now I literally ride a two-wheeler 12 miles a day and it would be nice to have another environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

I wonder how well those machines would perform in colder temperatures, say, in Northern Canada…
I’ve been looking for a decent set of 2 wheels since gas prices are so ludicrous. I hate being a slave to the pump.

  4. Daniel Bedrosian Says:

I saw this great invention on Discovery network television, and I would love to give this bike a run for its money and put it through a reality check.
I live near L.A. I also work at several studios like (W.B.,NBC Universal,CBS ect.) So if the makers of the HYDROGEN Motorcycle “ENV” need someone in the Los Angeles area to put the ENV to the ultimate city and urban living road test and give their input and reveiw of this revolutionary bike. I will be ready to do so with complete commitment and fairness.
    thanks An interested consumer

So where is it? It’s January 2007, and the websites say they hope to have it for sale in 2006.

  6. Arnie Says:

Another interesting initiative, but (yet again) not available for the consumer. Having said that, it amazes me that the “mainstream” motorcycle manufacturers do not pick up on the concept of hydrogen/alternative fuel powered motorcycles, because, if they don’t, sooner or later they wil not be selling any motorcycles at all any more. Apparently the customer isn’t always king….

  7. DreamWalker Says:

The main problem is that oilmen will sabotage projects like this one or the air car… Until there would be no oil on this planet. ;) I so want to buy a env bike…
